Dental work really is the most successful treatment but if they are virus negative then steroid treatment may provide significant relief during severe flare ups and helps promote appetite. Interferon treatment can help for many cases, especially if viruses such as calicivirus are circulating

If he he has pain he should be seen by a vet to rule out damaged teeth or a broken jaw which requires repair or extraction - brushing will not solve this. I would also recommend using a pet toothpaste or dental hygiene gel as these are more effective and also better accepted as they are flavoured.

Hi and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The gold standard for at home dental care is brushing teeth. However, we all know this is not easy for you or your pet!! If Lilly will let you do so, then yes, I recommend getting a silicone tooth brush (finger or long handle- whichever is easier) and brushing her teeth all the way from her back molars to her front incisors. I also recommend the dental chews called OraVet. They tend to work a little bit better reducing plaque and maintaining better smelling breath. You can likely find these dental chews at your local veterinary's office. With age and time, dog's teeth tend to build tartar more quickly. Therefore, I recommend brushing, dental chews and even particular dental food. Thanks for being so on top of Lilly's care! You are doing a great job!

Hello, thank you again for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I answered your question yesterday. I researched the product before I answered you and I did not see any harmful ingredients. However, that does not mean no animal will never show any adverse effects. If it does not agree with your cat stop using it. No one can guarantee anything. I have been a veterinarian in the US for close to 20 years and as a certified veterinary technician for 5 years prior to that. I have never heard of this product but that does not mean there is anything wrong with it. There are millions of products in the world marketed towards animals with new ones coming out each day. There is no way to keep up with all of them. Again, I suggest you contact the manufacturer directly for any concerns.

Nikki is adorable! Thank you so much for posting pictures. You posted about a number of concerns, so hopefully I can address all of them. As far as her teeth go, it is always recommended to have a full dental cleaning under anesthesia to resolve any underlying problems and pain, then follow up with something like a water additive to decrease additional dental calculus from forming. My favorite dental product is PetSmile, but it does need to be applied to the teeth. https://petsmileusa.com There has been a lot of evidence that increasing the amount of Omega 3 fatty acids in the diet can make a big difference for inflammation and itching. Since a diet change and adding Omega 3 fatty acids to the diet can both cause loose stool, I normally only recommend that clients make one change to a diet at a time (which includes supplements). Both Acana and Wellness make a wonderful fish based diet, so I do not have a preference between the 2 of those. Make sure you do a gradual diet change over a period of days to prevent any GI upset and loose stools. Then, if you still need to add in an Omega 3 fatty acid supplement, you could add something like Nordic Naturals. https://www.nordicnaturals.com/petRet/ Good luck! I hope that was helpful and answered your questions. Thanks for using PetCoach.
