That is a difficult problem. I usually try giving treats to catch them, and then use grooming with soothing talk to help calm their fear. There are anti anxiety supplements you can give if you know this is going to happen ahead of time. You may also talk with your neighbors to let you know when they will be doing this so you can prepare, have him under control, give medication or if possible consider taking your hose to another place if needed. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for your horse.

Sedalin contains acepromazine, which is a commonly used horse tranquilizer, and, depending on the dose, the effects should wear off in 6-24 hours. Bombproof is a supplement that contains tryptophan to try to help with calming and is not a prescription sedative. I would not routinely use these products together, but it should be ok once. If you see that Tally seems overly sedate to the point where he could harm himself, I recommend that he be seen by a vet immediately. Until the sedation from the combination of these products wears off, he should not be worked or ridden.

Hi there and thanks for your post on PetCoach! I would recommend calming supplements for your pets that have L-theanine in them which can have a calming effect. I would recommend a product called Composure from VetriScience which comes in a liquid and chewable form. I have the product linked below: I hope this helps!

In general, over the counter calming chews are safe for 4 month old puppies. The most rapidly effective calming chew that I have had experience with is VetriScience Composure chews (available on PetCo.com and Chewy.com). I have heard many times that owners have had no success with over the counter calming supplements for their dogs (ones available in petstores) but notice a difference within half an hour with Composure chews. Adaptil phermomone plug-ins and collars have also been helpful in many anxious dogs. Good luck!

A pheromone collar, such as the Adaptil collar, may be of benefit. Rescue Remedy for Pets is a liquid that can be given before or during times of stress. Zuke's also makes a Calming chew that may be effective. Along with these supplements, gradual desensitization to negative stimuli should be attempted. Do this by exposing Archer to the stimulus for ever increasing periods of time. Use praise and reward as he progresses.
