Every dog is a little different and you may have to experiment a bit to find the food that Roscoe tolerates the best. I don't know what your budget is, or what is specifically available in your area, but here are a few brand options: Natural Balance Taste of the Wild Merrick Canidae Most of these brands offer grain free treats as well. Real Nature seems to be a very high quality food, it is not one i am familiar with but the ingredient list is quite impressive. if he is doing well on this brand i would probably stick with it. other excelent options include Orijen, Acana and taste of the wild.

Grain free is more hype than science... so it is no necessary to start or worry about tag. Raw diets are not safe as dogs are susceptible of bacterial infections such as salmonella and E. coli like we are, and even you can get it from handling the food...not worth the risk to anyone. Purina, royal canin, and science diet have the most research behind their products for both ingredients and safety. Your new puppy will need to be on a small bites puppy forumla due to his size. Any food within those brands is good quality. They do have some natural formulas for you to choose from also

Hello. Grain free labeling is more of a marketing to rather than an indication of a good food. I encourage brands that have passed the AAFCO food standards (it would say that on the bag usually by the nutritional information). These brands include Purina, Science Diet, Pedigree, Eukanuba, Blue Buffalo- In changing diets remember that sudden changes can be hard on the GI tract so gradually mixing in the new food is best.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is not known at this time if grain free diets are actually better than diets with grain. I usually recommend feeding a high quality diet. Purina is an excellent diet but if you do not have access to this diet, there are others that you could consider that are also excellent such as Hill's Science Diet, Royal canin and Iams foods. Grain does not necessarily make dogs gain weight so I would be more focused on the quality and balance of the diet per se. Good luck and have a great day!
