Gabapentin and amantadine can be given simultaneously, as there are no interactions between these drugs. They work quite well together to manage cases of neuropathic pain! Make sure to follow the dosing instructions from Kitkat's vet closely. If you are questioning the efficacy of Kitkat's medications, consider discussing alternative medication options with her vet.

I am sorry to hear about your dog! Unfortunately a veterinarian cannot legally prescribe you pain medication without examining your dog within the past year, so we cannot prescribe any medication through our online service. I would look into finding out if there is a low cost option for veterinary services in your area, such as a humane society or APL/APA. You can look for more resources on affording veterinary care at https://www.humanesociety.org/resources/having-trouble-affording-veterinary-care

Apoquel- for controlling atopic dermatitis (allergies) Antirobe- antibiotic usually for the mouth Rimadyl- anti-inflammatory, has many uses Cephalexin- antibiotic used for many different organs including bladder, skin, abdominal organs, etc I am not sure what is hurting him however if you feel he is in pain then it's best to take him to your vet for proper pain management or discuss humane euthanasia. I am sorry your pet is in such critical condition and hope you can get him some help soon.

Sorry to hear about Clive. The mainstay treatments for orthopedic injuries are pain killers and anti inflammatories (NSAIDs). Since there may be a spinal / neural component to this, neuropathic medications and muscle relaxants may also come in very helpful especially during times of additional breakthrough discomfort. The type of medication to be dispensed will ultimately be a discussion with your primary vet, but NSAIDs that are common include carprofen (Rimadyl), deracoxib (Deramaxx), and meloxicam (Metacam). Other medications are things like opioids including tramadol and hydrocodone. In terms of the back, I would consider medications like gabapentin and methocarbamol to address this. There is another medication that I use in patients with refractory pain called amantadine, but I find it only effective when used in conjunction with NSAIDs. The periodic or daily use of many of these medications should be coupled with blood work at least twice yearly to be sure liver and kidney values are not elevating. Hope you get Clive all straightened out!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I'm sorry to hear that Buster is having some aches and pains. A very safe pain medication that we prescribe regularly in cats (and dogs) is called gabapentin. It is a neuropathic pain medication but can be very effective for the treatment of mild to moderate chronic pain, such as that from arthritis or other chronic illness. It is safe on the heart and kidneys; side effects include mild sedation. I recommend asking your veterinarian if he/she can prescribe gabapentin for Buster. There is a liquid form of the medication, which is helpful in cats. I hope this is helpful - best of luck with Buster!
