Description

Selegiline is a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) used to control the signs of cognitive dysfunction syndrome (CDS) in dogs and cats. This product is an oral tablet formulation. Used for the control of clinical signs associated with cognitive dysfunction syndrome and dementia in older dogs and cats. Can also be prescribed to control the clinical signs of certain types of hyperadrenocorticism (Cushing's disease) in dogs. Do not use this medication within at least 2 weeks of any other monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), including amitraz, an ingredient in certain flea and tick collars. May be prescribed for other animal species, please consult your veterinarian. While this drug does not have an FDA-approved indication for all animal uses, it is commonly accepted for veterinarians to prescribe this medication for use in animals. Medications can play a significant role in comprehensive behavior modification therapy.

  • - Product packaging and appearance, including size, color, and shape, may differ from the description or images provided and are subject to manufacturer availability. Product sourced directly from the manufacturer or their approved distributor. Guaranteed genuine product backed by the manufacturer. For: Dogs and Cats. Active ingredient(s): Clindamycin hydrochloride. Common brand names: Antirobe, Cleocin. Drug class: Lincosamide antibiotic. Product strength and size: Clindamycin capsules may be available in multiple strengths and/or sizes. Please ensure the selected product and quantity are appropriate for your pet, as recommended by your veterinarian. For current availability, please refer to the product selection above. Usage: Clindamycin Capsules should be administered as directed by your veterinarian. Please consult your veterinarian before making any changes or discontinuing the prescribed dosing schedule
  • - When administered once daily, it is usually recommended to give the dose in the morning for dogs and in the evening for cats. This medication may require up to 8 weeks or longer to reach its full therapeutic effect. Your veterinarian may monitor closely and adjust the dosage according to your pet's treatment plan. Selegiline can be given with or without food. If your pet vomits or appears unwell after receiving a dose on an empty stomach, give future doses with food or a small treat. If vomiting continues, contact your veterinarian. Missed doses: Administer the dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give more medication than prescribed or two doses at once. If you have questions about your pet's prescribed dosing schedule (e.g., timing, interval), please consult your veterinarian. Storage: Store in a cool, dry place at a controlled room temperature (68-77F)
  • - Keep in a secure location out of the reach of children and pets. Exposure to extreme temperatures, light, or moisture may affect the integrity and effectiveness of medications. Always store medications properly (e.g., away from the bathroom, kitchen sink, or other damp places). Side effects: Reported side effects with this medication include (but may not be limited to): vomiting, diarrhea, excessive salivation or drooling, reduced appetite, decreased energy level/lethargy, restlessness, repetitive movements, licking, itching, and shivers/trembles/shakes. Your veterinarian may advise a lower initial dose and gradually increase over time to help find an appropriate dosage and avoid these effects. Contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet shows any signs of diminished hearing or deafness, extreme behavioral changes (e.g., aggression), or excessive panting
  • - Notify your veterinarian if your pet experiences any of the effects described above, or if you notice any other side effects that are persistent or troublesome. If you notice anything unusual, please consult your veterinarian. Precautions: Selegiline has several potentially serious drug and food interactions, discuss your pet's diet, snacks, and all current medications with your veterinarian prior to starting. Do NOT make any changes without approval from your veterinarian. Because this medication should NOT be used within at least 2 weeks of any other monoamine oxidase inhibitor (e.g., amitraz), it is NOT compatible with flea and tick collars that contain amitraz as an active ingredient. If your pet is currently using one of these collars, consult your veterinarian before starting this medication. A washout period of up to six weeks may be required between the administration of certain medications and selegiline
  • - Please follow your pet's treatment plan closely and notify your veterinarian if you observe anything unusual. Safe use of this medication has not been established and may not be recommended in breeding, pregnant, or lactating animals. Discuss the risks of using this medication with your veterinarian if your pet is in one of these groups. Do not administer this medication to animals with a known or suspected allergy/hypersensitivity to it or any of its ingredients. Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Please inform Vetsource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known sensitivities or allergies, especially to medications and supplements. If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, discontinue therapy and call your veterinarian immediately or seek emergency veterinary attention. Symptoms may include (but are not limited to): swollen lips, tongue, face, or airways, difficulty breathing, agitation, profuse salivation, and widespread hives or itching
  • - Drug and food interactions: Selegiline has several serious drug and food interactions, please discuss your pet's current diet and medications prior to starting this medication. Only foods, treats, and medications that have been approved by your veterinarian should be given. Certain foods, including aged/cured meats and aged cheeses, can cause serious interactions and should be avoided
  • - The following drugs may have potential interactions with this medication: alpha-2 agonists (e.g., dexmedetomidine Sileo), antidiabetic agents (including insulins), atropine (systemic or ophthalmic), blood pressure medications (e.g., amlodipine, enalapril, telmisartan), beta-2 agonists (e.g., albuterol), dextromethorphan, diphenoxylate, concurrent MAOIs (e.g., amitraz), metoclopramide, mirtazapine, ondansetron, opioids, phenothiazines (e.g., acepromazine, trimeprazine), phenylpropanolamine (Proin), SSRIs (e.g., fluoxetine, sertraline), tramadol, trazodone, and tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline, clomipramine).
