I gave my puppy activated charcoal. Is it safe? Should I worry?

Charcoal is not toxic. As long as whatever you were cooking on the charcoal was also not toxic it should be fine. It may upset the belly a little bit too but should not cause anything too terrible. I suppose there is a very small chance the charcoal could not have been chewed at all and get lodged somewhere inappropriate. However, even if this were the case the body will break down through normal GI activity. Hope this puts your mind at a little ease!

The activated charcoal will likely prevent appropriate absorption of the drug. If diarrhea develops start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. The diarrhea is usually self limiting. No, I would not use activated charcoal on Neekie. It's not safe to use on dogs unless a specific toxicity has been diagnosed. In addition, even if it were brohmethelin poisoning, a week is too long for the activated charcoal to have any effect. If Neekie hasn't seen a vet since her hind legs were suddenly paralyzed, I would have her seen by a vet immediately for this.

Typically most of the contraceptives are not toxic with just 1 pill; however I recommend you call ASPCA Pet poison control hotline @ (888) 426-4435. You may see a bout of diarrhea but this is typically the extent o the adverse effects seen. If anything changes within the next 24 hrs your pet should be seen by a veterinarian.
