My dog ate charcoal and is drooling and gagging. Is she okay?

Charcoal is not toxic. As long as whatever you were cooking on the charcoal was also not toxic it should be fine. It may upset the belly a little bit too but should not cause anything too terrible. I suppose there is a very small chance the charcoal could not have been chewed at all and get lodged somewhere inappropriate. However, even if this were the case the body will break down through normal GI activity. Hope this puts your mind at a little ease!

Poor Lily has been through a lot! The charcoal can be responsible for the color of her stools, and she may have some stomach upset from the charcoal leading her to have a decrease in appetite. Try offering her some boiled white meat chicken (no bones or skin) and white rice. If she isn't back to eating as normal in another 24-48 hours, then I would be concerned and give her vet a call. The drooling indicates nausea. I can give you a home remedy for him to see if that helps. Withhold food tonight, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he refuses to eat the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Hello! I am glad Luna is otherwise feeling good. It is possible that vomiting yesterday has irritated her throat or she got ahold of something while no one was looking. If her throat is what she is reacting to, it should decrease slowly over a couple days. If she is still gagging just as much after 48 hours or any of the parameters you are monitoring change such as energy, appetite, etc. then it would be a good idea to get her checked out by her regular vet.
