Is my Pomeranian's strange bark from a seizure or larynx issue?

From what your are describing it seems to be a seizure and I would recommend to have Pommerian checked by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Make sure she didn't ingest anything she shouldn't have (i.e. human medication, herbicide, detergents,...), if you find something suspicious bring it with you so the vet can check it. If she isn't vaccinated, rabies is also a major concern especially for your health so please be careful and and take her straight to your vet.

This could be a respiratory problem causing her to collapse when doing too much fast exercise. My dog did this when she had a liver tumor pushing on her lungs. This is a serious medical problem so I would keep her quiet to prevent these episodes and take her in right away for an exam and work up. Hopefully with the proper treatment she will stop this. A sudden bark change is definitely something to go see your vet about. What you describe makes me think Zeus has laryngeal paralysis (“lar par”). Other possibilities are a mass or abscess in the throat or potentially an infection like kennel cough. However, rest assured that your choke collar did not cause this (unless it somehow caused a puncture wound to the throat).

This could be due to a degeneration of the laryngeal nerve that is innervating the larynx being in charge of its movement (vocal chords included). Inflammation of this nerve and upper respiratory airways infection is possible as well. I wouldn't jump to thinking the end is near from what you're seeing so far. I think he needs a general exam and full blood work to see how his organs are working. It would be helpful to get a video of the barking event to show your vet (and also probably nearly impossible, but give it a try). Also try to notice if he is aware of his surroundings when the barking episodes happen. If not, I would be more concerned about seizures, which would be more serious. I hope you find out nothing serious is going on soon!

It could be that Spike is suffering from a respiratory infection, which can cause the change in his bark. There is a potential it could be due to cancer, trauma, infection, or an abscess. I wouldn't be concerned, but I would have him seen by a vet for this. The vet can do a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, and possibly x-rays to diagnose what is causing the change in his voice, and can treat him for it.
