What is this new spot on my senior dog's foot? Is it cancer?

This growth needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take Google to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.

That looks pretty serious. It looks suspicious for a malignant tumor (cancer). I suggest you take Winston to your vet for an exam as soon as possible. In the meantime you can soak the foot in warm Epsom salt water to help draw out some of the toxins. Just 5 minutes a couple times a day. If Nova is two years or younger, this could be a histiocytoma - a benign tumor that is usually on the front half of the body. They usually go away on their own without treatment. Until you can get to the vet, it's best to keep the area clean and dry and prevent Ginger from licking or chewing at it with an Elizabethan (cone) collar or sock over the spot. Skin masses can be many things but red raised masses are especially concerning for a skin cancer called a Mast Cell tumor. Your veterinarian will need to collect a sample of cell to examine under the microscope to determine what this is and if further treatment is needed. another common reason for a lesion like this is a foreign object trapped under the skin. Fox tails have a tendency to do this and generally need to be removed and the lesion lanced. Have this checked out soon. It could also be a benign growth. The best thing to do is having him seen by a vet on Monday. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the growth to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. The vet most likely will want to remove it, and that will be a surgical procedure to do this, but only your vet can make the best treatment decision for Ray.
