My dog has parasites and trouble swallowing. What should I do?

I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If this behavior continues on the bland diet, she refuses to eat the bland diet, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Oh no, poor Roxy! That swelling is really bad. Yes, there may be medication that can help with it, but only a vet can prescribe it. She sounds miserable, so I would take her into a vet immediately.

Hello, sorry to hear about Roxy. I would recommend having her evaluated if her clinical sings persist, especially if she is a dog that likes to chew toys, sticks, or get into the trash. Our biggest concern is that she may have a foreign object she may have swallowed that is stuck in her stomach or intestines. Other causes in dogs her age include dietary indiscretions or infections. I am sorry to hear Roxy isn't feeling well. Eating sand doesn't always mean a vitamin deficiency and even though she is defecating some sand out, it doesn't mean it all is coming out. I recommend taking her to a vet to look for intestinal parasites, which can sometimes cause them to eat things they shouldn't. It also sounds like she is nauseous (drooling) from eating too much sand and may need to have the sand removed. The vet may need to take x-rays to make sure she hasn't eaten something else with the sand. After that, I would keep her away from the sand so she doesn't continue to eat it. You can get this swollen belly from intestinal worms. If there was something to give Roxie for it, the vet would give it to her. You have to wait and see if the deworming treatment helps. If it does not, have her seen by a vet again.

It sounds as Roxy is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

My concern would be that if he is having a hard time swallowing then it could progress to having a hard time breathing. Should this happen while you are sleeping it could be catastrophic.
