My Pitbull has painful sores on the outside of her mouth. What is it?

This is likely a painful bacterial dermatitis which will need to be cleaned and disinfected and then treated either topically with and antibiotic or with antibiotic tablets or antifungals, depending on the cause. Please take Roxanne to a veterinarian for a skin exam.

These sores could be caused by a skin infection that was just starting when you first say your vet, but is now worse and needs treatment. The sores could also be caused by parasites, allergies, or even be wounds. I recommend scheduling another appointment with your veterinarian so they can see what her skin looks like now. Also ask your veterinarian about the aspirin usage - there are better and safer medications available for arthritis that they may be able to get for you. Good luck!

From the symptoms you are describing, I wonder if she may have chewed on something bitter or caustic - certain types of plants can cause blisters on the mouth and nausea, as well as toxins like drain cleaner or other household cleaners. You can try rinsing her mouth with fresh water if she will let you, and offering her some plain boiled chicken and rice to help settle her stomach. If this doesn't help, or if she develops any other symptoms like vomiting, not wanting to eat, or acting lethargic or weak, I would recommend having her seen by an emergency vet today since these can be signs of a serious problem.

I would guess Lola could have a bacterial infection around her mouth. Trauma could also cause similar lesions. If she seems itchy it is possible that she has an infection secondary to allergies. A bacterial skin infection is often treated with oral antibiotics so I would recommend making an appointment to have your vet take a look.

I hate to hear that Kanny is uncomfortable. It sounds like she is having some type of allergic reaction. The facial swelling along with what may be hives indicate that she should go to the veterinarians office for diphenhydramine and dexamethasone injections. They will likely also put her on an over-the-counter antihistamine and potentially steroid tablets for a few days. if what you were describing as abscesses appear to be infected, she will likely also go on an antibiotic. Get her in right away before she scratches more sores on her body. In the meantime, a cool water bath may help to temporarily decrease the itch but ultimately she will likely need medications. While it's difficult to say for certain if it is a staph infection I agree that it looks bacterial, but a fungal infection could look very similar. Skin infections in this area can occur secondary to irritation so make sure you use a glass or stainless steel bowl and clean it frequently. Allergies would be another possibility. This looks fairly severe in your picture - I'd recommend seeing your vet in person to determine if oral antibiotics are needed.

It is difficult to say what might be causing the sores without seeing what they look like and where exactly they are located, but one possibility might be that the lower teeth are cutting into the upper lip due to the teeth being misaligned (malocclusion).
