My dog has a hard, dry spot in his nose. Is it a scab or snot?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding T-Bone. The picture is a little blurry, but he may have a condition known as hyperkeratosis of the nasal planum. If so, his veterinarian can prescribe an ointment to dissolve the roughened skin. It is a common condition and does not cause the dog any harm. I hope this information helps!

It could be dried blood from a nosebleed. I would watch her carefully to make sure she isn't dripping blood or sneezing blood. This is most likely what happened, and hopefully it was an isolated incident and doesn't continue. If it does, she needs an exam and X-rays of her skull to make sure she doesn't have a tumor or foreign body in her nasal passage causing bleeding.

I recommend to call your vet and have Tedy examined. When things develop suddenly, there is a concern that this is a disease. Older dogs can develop autoimmune conditions, hypothyroidism or this could be something like ringworm (which humans can get). Unfortunately, there's not much you can do because Tedy will lick off anything you put on the area. I hope this helps.

I don't like the look of this. With it so round and well demarcated I would guess it's from a spider or insect bite. You can clean this with a warm cloth and a mild shampoo or soap. Rinse it well and when it's dry apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. I would have this examined in the next few days as it could be a fungal infection from rooting in the ground also. If there is any question as to the cause your veterinarian can do a skin scraping of it and get a diagnosis after looking at the cells under the microscope. Good morning. The bump on Toby's nose could be due to a number of things including an insect bite, inflammation, infection or less likely, a tumor. If the bump is not resolving within a few days, if it enlarges or if Toby develops any new symptoms such as nasal discharge, sneezing or lethargy, he should be seen by a veterinarian.

It looks like Tasha had some nasal discharge that dried up. If after you wipe it away with a washcloth soaked with warm water, it does not return, and she continues to eat/drink/play normally, she will likely be fine. If she continues to have nasal and /or eye discharge, starts coughing and/or sneezing, and becomes tired/lethargic, she may be developing a respiratory infection that would benefit from a vet’s visit and possibly antibiotics. It is difficult to tell from the pictures, but what you are describing on Cookie's nose can be due to a variety of reasons, including a scab, crusted nasal discharge, a cyst, a small growth, or another underlying issue.
