My dog has brown dried stuff on her nostril. What could it be?

At 13 years of age, a nasal tumor would be most likely. A tumor typically would cause bleeding out of just one nostril. Other possibilities would be a severe bacterial infection, tooth root abscess, nasal foreign material (I've seen dogs that had toy stuffing in the nose), or fungal infection. Unfortunately anesthesia for nasal scoping and often CT scan is usually necessary to get a diagnosis.

When it is one nostril then it narrows the causes down to a few possibilities. It is very possible that there could be an object up in the nasal cavity causing these signs. The other concern would be a nasal tumor. Nasal tumors can be hard to diagnose without a CT scan. I will usually do an anesthetized nasal flush to see if it helps. If not then I will usually refer to a specialist for a possible CT. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon.

Poor Daisy! She is an older girl, and unfortunately this sneezing with blood in her snot could be due to a malignant growth (cancer) in her nasal cavity. It could also be due to a foreign body, fungal infection, or respiratory infection. Because this has been ongoing for a while, it's best that Daisy is seen by a vet either today or tomorrow. The vet can do a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, x-rays, and may look up her nasal cavity with an endoscope to diagnose what is causing her symptoms. Once a cause is found, the vet can discuss treatment options with you.

It looks like her nose is very dry and cracked. To be safe, I would get her in to see a vet as soon as possible, especially if she's feeling sick otherwise, any unusual lethargy, refusal to eat and drink, vomiting, diarrhea could all point to this being a much more serious condition. I do recommend very gently cleaning her nose and applying a thin protective coating of Vaseline to her nose to help slow the cracking and dryness.

This looks like she had an infected area under the skin (an abscess) that has ruptured to the surface. That is good as the infection will drain. Clean the area with antibacterial soap, rinse well and you can apply a thin film of antibiotic ointment. It should heal in a few days. It could be dried snot, and it may be that Tucker has a stuffy nose or respiratory infection. I'd try to wipe it off with a soft wet cloth. If he won't let you, have him seen by a vet. Best of luck.

This could indicate nasal discharge, which may be a sign of a respiratory infection, allergies, or even a foreign body stuck in the nasal passage. I would clean up the area, and keep an eye on her. As long as she is acting normally and showing no signs of illness such as continuing nasal discharge, sneezing, coughing, lethargy, difficulty breathing, or a loss of appetite, it's fine to watch her.
