Why is my dog losing eye hair, scooting, and has green discharge?

Hello. This could be conjunctivitis, but there are several other conditions that can cause this kind or irritation, including demodex mites. You do want to find out what this is because I am sure Kirby is uncomfortable. And, if he rubs his eyes the wrong way, he could wind up scratching his cornea making things worse. Hi. Poor Eclipse. It would be helpful to know how old he is. It may be that he had anskin mite ir skin infection or allergies, in addition to an eye infection. I would recommend an exam and some skin testing with your veterinarian. There isnt anything from home that would help with this severity. Good luck

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Draco. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. He may have an eye infection or even a scratch across the surface of his eye. He sounds painful given that he is pawing at it and seeking extra attention. He will likely need some eye tests for the doctor to make an accurate diagnosis. From there treatment can be prescribed. In the meantime, place an E-collar on him to prevent further damage from pawing. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to dogs. I hope this information helps!

Hair loss in that area is generally due to allergies, mites or less likely and autoimmune disease. You can try giving Shadow an over the counter antihistamine to see if it helps. Wipe his eyes out daily to keep them clean. If he is rubbing the eyes, put an elizabethan collar on him to protect them. If you are not seeing any improvement, or if he is getting worse, I would recommend a vet visit. Taking care of things early is much better. I hope this helps Shadow.

Skin lesions can be caused by bacterial, parasitic or fungal infection, dietary or environmental allergies or sensitivities, immune system disorders, or a combination of the above. I recommend making an appointment to have Tanner seen by your veterinarian to help determine the cause of the lesions you’ve noticed and to make sure they are treated appropriately. The vet will likely want to look at a sample from the area under the microscope to determine if there is an infection and to figure out what medication is appropriate for treatment. In the meantime, you can bathe Tanner in hypoallergenic shampoo for dogs to clean the area, but this will likely not resolve the lesions. Keep an e-collar (cone) on Tanner to help prevent licking/chewing at the affected areas and to prevent him from rubbing his eyes, as this can lead to infection and damage. It is very important that Tanner be seen by a vet for proper diagnosis and treatment of his eyes to determine if this is an infection, if it is due to allergies or trauma, if it is a corneal ulcer( a scratch on the eye), if it is a condition called "dry eye" that can lead to reduced tear production, or another condition that may need to be treated in a completely different manner. Over-the-counter medications are not recommended for use in treatment without a vet visit, as some types of eye ointments and drops contain steroids that can severely damage an eye that has sustained a corneal ulcer or trauma. Your vet may need to do some tests, which may include a Fluorescein stain to check for scratches, tonometry to test the eye pressures, and a Schirmer tear test to evaluate tear production, based on the vet’s ophthalmic exam findings.

It looks like your puppy could have a pyoderma skin infection or possibly parasites causing the bumps around her vulva, ears and paw. I would guess that the discharge from your vulva that you are seeing is from vaginitis, but a urinary tract infection would also be possible. The loss of balance is concerning and could be due to an inner ear issue or a neurologic problem, although puppies this age are normally not very coordinated so it may also be normal for her. I would definitely recommend seeing your veterinarian for these issues - after a physical exam they may or may not recommend checking a urinalysis. They can prescribe medications for the skin issues if necessary.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Bruno! I would have him rechecked. I would clean the skin and shave the fur away. I would consider oral steroids and oral antibiotics. I would also consider treating with with Nexgard to rule out demodex. I would also consider a different eye ointment, one with a steroid in it. Be sure your Vet checks to be sure he doesn't have a clogged tear duct or any other ocular issue that would cause increased tearing. I hope this helps and I wish you and Bruno the very best!
