My dog has a bleeding lump on his face. Could it be a dental issue?

Hi there. There are many possibilities with a swelling like that. However, in that specific location I would be highly suspicious of a tooth root abscess. If you lift the lip and look at the tooth, often you can see abnormalities. Also if you apply gentle pressure to the lump you may see pus drain out over the tooth. Of course abscesses from other causes as well at tumor can not be ruled out at this time. Please have Gingi seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. It is unlikely to be a big bite or sting because those should get big initially and then shrink over a few hours. Not the other way around. I recommend to get Reese into the veterinarian tomorrow morning. They'll get a better idea what this is from a physical exam. Soak her food warm water until it softens. Make her food and water room temperature. Take away any chew toys to avoid any further potential trauma. I hope this helps and that things get figured out quickly!

I recommend that you have Venice evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible as this would be considered an emergency. Hello, and thank you for your question. This looks like it could be a lump on the skin, or a focal area of infection on the skin. It may be bleeding now because Spud has been scratching at it. I would have it assessed by a vet within the next few days to pinpoint what it is. If a lump is found, they may recommend a fine needle aspirate to find out the nature of the lump. If it is a skin infection, medication can be prescribed to treat it. In the meantime, I would suggest putting an e-collar on Spud to prevent him from further chewing or licking at the lesion. If it is on the body (not the legs) you can try putting a t-shirt over him to again protect the area from further trauma. I hope this helps, and that Spud gets better soon!

This kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors. The nose bleed may not be related to the epulis, it may be a sign of other problem, like low platelet count, foreign body, polyp or mass within the nasal cavity. If the nasal bleed is severe, and has been going on for more than a few minutes, you should take Pharoah to your nearest vets as en emergency. If the bleeding has stopped now, you need to monitor your dog at home today and get him checked by your local vets tomorrow.

This lump could be causing Dash's nose bleeds. At his age, I would be concerned this lump could be a malignant tumor. I'd take him into a vet first thing Monday morning to get checked out. Best of luck.
