My dog has anaplasmosis, but her back leg lameness isn't improving.

Updated on September 23, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 9 years old | 88 lbs

Last week my dog went lame in her back legs Friday (late) the blood test results came back to the vet. and she was diagnosed with anaplasmosis and put on an antibiotic on Saturday. All the articles about this illness say that the most pets start recovering within 24-48 hours, but she hasn't had any improvement what so ever. Will we see improvement in her soon or can anaplasmosis permanently disable her?

You are correct that if the Anaplasmosis was causing the lameness, then I would expect that Cocoa Rose would be showing some improvement with treatment by now. It is possible that she has Anaplasmosis, but that something else is causing the problem with her legs. I would recommend having your veterinarian examine Cocoa Rose again to see if they can find another possible reason that she is having a problem with her legs and see if she needs another medication.
Good luck! I hope that was helpful and that Cocoa Rose feels better soon. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
