Is Dinovite making my dog listless, depressed, and have bad breath?

Hello. I’m sorry for your frustration, but some further investigation by a veterinarian is needed in order to determine what is going on. A thorough oral exam to look not only at the teeth but under the tongue, and all over the inside of the mouth for evidence of any growths, foreign bodies, etc would be the first step. This often requires sedation and dental X-ray may be helpful. Leo could also have something in his sinus or nasal cavity.....something stuck in there, a growth or polyp or just a deep seated chronic infection. Sedation to examine above his soft palate and then to flush his nasal passages would be recommended. If these things are not done to try to find the underlying problem, all you can do is continue to try antibiotics. If penicillin has been tried twice, it’s time to move on to a more broad spectrum one. However, I would be concerned that there is something more going on and the additional investigation would be best.

Hello. There could be more than one issue going on here, although the symptoms of some conditions can overlap. Bad breath can come from tooth decay, gingivitis, or even some stomach issues ( gastric reflux ). The shedding could just be a factor of the time of year ( mine are beginning to dump their winter coats ), but low thyroid could actually fit with all three symptoms. Adding a good probiotic to Coal's diet daily can help with the diarrhea & bad breath, & I would recommend Purina FortiFlora being one of the better ones. I also like Proviable KP, as this is designed specifically for diarrhea & has the probiotics, too. Both are available over the counter. If the probiotic does not help the diarrhea, please consider seeing your veterinarian for some testing to make sure there are no more serious situations to consider. I find it interesting that Coco's symptoms started with you using the spray on her teeth. I'm not sure what you are using, but given the timing, this spray could be causing her symptoms. I would have her seen by a vet, however, as it's unusual behavior for her and a health check would be a good idea. Show the vet the spray as well so the ingredients can be checked, and it might be a good idea to hold off on the spray until you see the vet.

Poor Ellie! This could be from teething or just a little tired if she didn’t sleep well or played too hard yesterday. It could also be due to certain viruses or parasites. Usually you would see other signs like loose stool or not eating but not always. If she continues to be lethargic I would have your vet take a look at her Your vet will be able to do a fecal and even blood work to ensure everything is okay. If Zoy has lost two teeth, he could have other dental disease in his back teeth causing the bad breath. He could be licking and chewing himself due to allergies, mites, or ringworm. I'd take him into the vet to get these issues checked out. As for his separation anxiety, I recommend crating him when you are gone. The crate will provide him a small space where he can feel safe in it when you are gone. You will have to slowly train him to get used to a crate. Start putting him in it when you are home and sitting nearby so he doesn't think you are abandoning him, and slowly increase the time he is in it. He can have toys in the crate, and puzzle toys with treats in it that he has to figure out how to get the treats out. You can put a tablespoon of peanut butter in a Kong toy and freeze it in the freezer overnight, then give it to him in the crate. That will keep him occupied for a while. Finally, you can get a pheromone diffuser called DAP that helps dogs with anxiety and pair that will a DAP pheromone collar that releases pheromones when in contact with his skin. If these methods do not help him, then I recommend having him seen by a vet to discuss the use of anti-anxiety medications. Best of luck, I hope this helps.

Poor Layz! If her breath smells terrible and is eating less than usual, I would suspect that she may have a dental problem. Dogs need regular dental care just like humans, and if they don't get it, they can develop severe gingivitis, a tooth root abscess, or a rotten tooth among other conditions. She would be eating less because it's painful for her to eat. I would give your vet a call today to set up an appointment for her. The vet can examine her mouth, and if they feel that there is a dental problem, will want to do a dental scaling, cleaning, and polishing. It's best for her health to have this checked out as soon as possible, as dental problems that are left untreated can lead to further health problems such as abscesses on the liver and heart infections. The most common reason we will see a dog suddenly develop bad breath would be that something abnormal is stuck somewhere in their mouth (such as a stick or piece of food) or they have a tooth root infection under the gum, so it is not visible. Doxycyline is actually used to treat pockets of infection under the gum and to help control periodontal disease, so I would not expect that to cause any problems with bad breath.
