Why is my thin 2-year-old cat having noisy, uncontrollable diarrhea?

Diarrhea and weight loss can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Foxy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Smokey. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian as soft stool is not normal in a kitten. The vast majority of these cases are due to an intestinal infection or a diet sensitivity. His veterinarian will likely perform fecal testing. Deworming medication or an antibiotic may be necessary. If this does not help, then a diet change could be needed. A high quantity kitten food is needed though. Royal Canin, Purina ProPlan and Hills Science Diet are all good options. Poor Smokey! If he has had fleas, it is likely he has also contracted worms, especially tapeworms and i recommend treating for these also. I would also consider converting him slowly to royal canin fibre response food which can help in the management of diarrhea, bowel upsets and furballs

Poor Ash! He could have a parasite, infection, congenital abnormality, etc. He really needs to be seen by a vet as soon as possible. Your vet can test a stool sample to help determine the cause and then prescribe medications to treat. You could try to find a low cost clinic or try the Humane society in your area and see if they can help. Hope he feels better soon!

If this was caused by a food change I would expect him to be back to normal by now. There may be something else underlying going on here that is the cause of Zebco's diarrhea and weight loss, such as intestinal parasites, pancreatic disease, diabetes, or even thyroid disease. I would recommend taking him to your vet for a through examination and potential tests (bloodwork, fecal exam), to hopefully identify the underlying problem so that he is treated appropriately. In the meantime I would suggest feeding Zebco a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese to help settle his stomach a bit. You can also try adding 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) in his food daily to add fiber and help harden the stools up. Best wishes with Zebco and I hope he feels better soon.

I'm sorry to hear this! It sounds like Smoky may have an issue such as constipation or even GI upset that is causing the problem. If the anus or rectal area are very irritated, that may cause fecal incontinence as well. It sounds as if Smoky is feeling pretty ill, and would benefit from additional examination and testing to try and find the cause. (Possibly with another vet!)

Poor guy. I would first suspect that he may have either a bacterial infection or a parasite infection. Have his stool tested by your vet to determine which is present so that he can get the proper treatment. Poor guy. I hope Sammy feels better soon. In the meantime offer him tuna and white rice to help settle his stomach and plenty of water to help prevent him from getting dehydrated.
