Why is my senior cat vomiting, losing weight, and having soft stool?

Kitty should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. He could have hyperthyroidism and your vet can run blood-work to test his thyroid level. Once your vet determines the exact cause, he/she can recommend a treatment. Hope he feels better soon.

The vast majority of these cases are due to an intestinal infection or a diet sensitivity. His veterinarian will likely perform fecal testing. Deworming medication or an antibiotic may be necessary. If this does not help, then a diet change could be needed. A high quantity kitten food is needed though. Royal Canin, Purina ProPlan and Hills Science Diet are all good options. Has Poe been tested for FeLV, FIV an FIP? If not, I would start there. These diseases/viruses often linger and can cause symptoms like his. Even if he was previously tested and was negative I would test him again as false negative results can happen. If he has not had full blood testing and x-rays I would do those as well.

Wet food actually helps cats lose weight. It has a higher moisture content, so it takes more of it to give a cat their daily caloric requirements I would have him seen by a vet today or tomorrow. In a senior cat, this weight loss can not only be caused by dental problems, but also diabetes, kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, or cancer. I recommend having a physical exam, geriatric blood panel, and urinalysis to diagnose what is causing his weight loss. Once the cause is found, the vet can discuss treatment options.

In an older cat, my first thought would be dental disease. This would be painful for Krinkle, cause him to eat less, and subsequent weight loss. It could also be that he has diabetes, kidney failure, or hyperthyroidism. Having him seen by a vet this week is a good idea. I hope this helps!
