Cat ran out in cold rain. Should I worry? What to do when he's home?

Feed him and water him and examine him closely for pain, blood or injuries, check his nail (whether they are frayed...if so, he may have been hit by a car), observe him walk and whether he is lame. If all is well, he is probably just very very happy to be home again with you. He may have been very scared outside considering he is usually an inside kitty. Give him lots of TLC. If he keeps crying or has any signs of an injury, or appears ill or hurt, you should take him to ta pet ER tonight.

I hope he's ok! I'd say chances are still good at this point - I recommend keeping food out for him, and set his litterbox outside so he can recognize his familiar scent if he's become a bit disoriented. I hope he finds his way home!

Poor Hazel. The main things I would look for is if she stops eating or starts vomting or having diarrhea. Cats that run off for a while may have been bitten or injured while gone. Although you don’t see any obviously punctures, I would watch for any swellings anywhere. An abscess could always form over the next week from a previous injury where the skin already healed. Let her rest but her activity should pick up after a few days of sleeping. I hope this helps and she has a full recovery.

It's possible he is being skittish, just enjoys being outdoors, or has been injured and so won't approach you. It may be a good idea to contact your local animal shelter for a humane trap (one that doesn't hurt them when they enter it). You can then place it in his usual hangout spot with some smelly food (heated chicken or canned food) to entice him to enter. Once he's safely captured, bringing him to your vet to make sure he's OK after being out so long is best, and from there you can get him settled back in indoors.

Hello. If Max is eating, then that is a very good & encouraging sign. I would just keep him indoors for as long as possible & as long as he continues to eat, & not having any difficulties breathing, walking or using the litter box, he will be fine. You can place his favorite food outside to try to entice him to come home and search the surrounding area. Maybe a neighbor has seen an injured cat. If there is a local veterinarian, ask if anyone has brought an injured cat to the hospital. I hope he returns home soon.

The wound doesn't look infected or Bloody more like a scrape that has removed hair. I would simply keep him warm and comfortable until you get to the vets. Try and feed little and often as they can over indulge when they gave been away a while.
