Why is my cat head pressing? Is it a sign of a serious problem?

Head pressing and acting disoriented are symptoms of a neurologic problem - the panting may be related to discomfort and anxiety, or could indicate that he is having trouble breathing for some reason. These are very concerning symptoms, and I would recommend having Mimic seen by an emergency vet right away. He may need blood work and x-rays to help determine what's wrong. The vet can talk to you about his prognosis and treatment options to help him depending on what is found.

Hi, it could be a number of different things. Does her head move from side to side when she is moving ? Or does it occur also when she is still ? In order to be able to pin down a list of differential diagnosis, a full neurological exam should be performed. Quite often, further advanced imaging is necessary such an MRI or CT scan. In absence of other neurological signs it could be that the cause of this condition is to be found in the cerebellum. It could be a tumour but it could also be something else. Hope you can have further work up done, it your vet has not come across this before, then perhaps seeing someone who is specialised in neurological conditions is the bast way forward.

In any cat this can be a sign of a neurological problem, vestibular disease or an inner ear infection. No one knows what causes vestibular disease but it does often get better with time and treatment. Inner ear infections are also treatable with medication. At your cats age I would be worry about a brain disease such as a tumor or vascular disease to cause these symptoms. She does need to see a vet as soon as possible to see what the problem is and your potential prognosis. They can start medicine to help calm her and minimize the symtpoms

Oh no, I'm so sorry! It sounds like Jane suffered some significant head trauma and is showing signs of traumatic brain injury. I would recommend taking her to an emergency veterinarian as soon as possible. Prompt intensive care, oxygen, and IV fluid support are usually recommended and depending on how severe her neurologic signs are and how she responds to therapy she may be able to make a full recovery. This could be caused by an ear infection, fleas, drug reaction (if she is currently taking medications), or a brain issue (trauma, infection). More than likely, if he is up to date with his real treatments, this will be due to an ear infection. I would take Theodore into the vet. The vet can diagnose what is causing the head bob and treat accordingly. I would take him into the vet first thing in the morning.

I am sorry to hear this! I know how worrisome it is to have vague signs with no other hints! If not done already, I would recommend having bloodwork and an x-ray done. Some things I would want to rule out- heart/lung disease, signs of infection, and parasites. If this all appears normal I would also consider a sedated exam to see if there are any abnormalities in his ears or mouth- like a polyp. If the behavior worsens and you do not find any answers on the other tests I would also consider advanced imaging like a CT. I hope it is nothing serious but it is good to know your options!
