How to accurately measure my cat's injection dose for the first time?

There is a dose range for clindamycin. We will be able to best help you if you know your cats current weight and can provide that inforrmation, if you know the concentration of the drug (mg/ml, should be on the package), and if you know how many ml you were instructed to give (should be on your syringe and the label on the bottle). If you are able to re post your question with that information we can let you know if the dose is in the dose range. But, as different diseases may be treated with a different dose, it will always be safer to verify with your vet as he or she prescribed the medication. Hi there. The instructions on the box refer to the dry powder form of the medication, which is how it comes from the manufacturer. Your veterinarian diluted it with water to make a liquid prior to dispensing it to you. So in short - no, you don't need to worry about this at all. Continue giving the medication as directed :)

You cannot if they are capsules. It is best to return to the pharmacy and get the correct dosage. If they don't have the correct size in capsules then they can give you a liquid that can be dosed properly.

If the insulin and syringe is U40 then yes, 5 should be 5 units (it is important to use the same graded syringes and insulin as this would invalidate the graduations otherwise). Blood glucose should be checked resting and fasting as a meal or strenuous exercise will affect readings - a schedule of timings before meals/exercise should be arranged in order to compare readings. Changes the the dose rate given should be made only in consultation with the treating vet - we are not legally in a position to prescribe medication as the animal must be under the direct care and supervision of the prescribing vet in order to make these decisions

Poor Maggie. I think there has been a misunderstanding. They probably gave 20mg (milligrams) which is equal to either 0.5mL (milliliters) or 1.0mL of depo-medrol depending on the concentration your vet carries. The general dose that most vets use is 20mg depomedrol per cat every 8 weeks as needed. I seriously doubt anyone would give 20mL of this drug. Also, it could be wearing off quicker if there are more allergens causing her skin to act up. With it being the changing of the seasons, this very well could be the issue. Also make sure she is on a high quality flea preventative. One flea bite can cause a major allergic reactions in cats with her problem. If she needs another depomedrol shot, I would talk to your vet and see if they would be willing to repeat the injection as early as 6-8 weeks during high allergy season.
