Hello. I do not know what might be available in Canada, but I highly recommend looking at this website for the Veterinary Oral Health Council. Click on the Accepted Products link at the top, then on accepted products for cats. It will list everything that is truly tested to provide results. Thanks for using PetCoach. https://www.vohc.org

I'm sorry to hear that Chevy is having this issue! There are a number of things that could be causing the bumps and scabs, even if she doesn't have any fleas. Allergies would be the most common possibility (either food allergies, or an allergy to something in the environment), but she may also have a bacterial or fungal skin infection, or even skin mites (mange). There really isn't any kind of over-the-counter supplement that I would expect to help, and I don't generally recommend bathing cats unless it's absolutely necessary since this tends to be quite stressful for everyone involved. But in terms of veterinary care, there should definitely be some middle ground between $1500 worth of diagnostics and doing nothing at all. For example, something like a steroid injection and antibiotics would be quite inexpensive and in my experience, has a good chance of giving cats like this some relief. Switching to a limited ingredient over-the-counter diet, while it may not be as effective as a prescription diet like Hills z/d or Purina HA, may also be somewhat helpful if a food allergy is involved. Your vet should be very willing to talk with you about options like this, since it's a reality in our field that $1500 diagnostic tests are not realistic for many pet owners. If they aren't willing to present some other options that are doable for you, I would suggest getting a second opinion from another local vet.

Hello, most pet dewormers are sold through your veterinarian as they are prescription medications. You can potentially get it cheaper online, but your veterinarian may still need to write a prescription for it. Some pet stores and mobile clinics may offer the same dewormer at a lower cost but you would need to contact the ones around your neighborhood personally to inquire about costs. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Hi, in terms of cat furniture don’t worry cats don’t need anything particularly fancy. They enjoy sitting on a shelf as in the picture and look outside the window. You would add some cardboard boxes that can also work as cratching posts and a couple of pillow on the bookshelf. I think the feeding area would better be moved, because being right in front of the windows is exposed, they can see/be seen and could spot something that might upset them. It is also advisable to keep feeding areas away from their litter tray and perhaps moving it would help increasing this distance. Are there only two cats in the room ? If so also consider the number of litter trays. I mo not sure how many you have at present, and if things work out well I probably would suggest not to change them. You can find lots of ideas in building/creating cat furniture from ikea furniture if you fancy a change in the future. Also cats will need to be active and interact with you so make sure you consider this in your routine. Hope this helps ! Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach
