My picky dog likes Solid Gold wet food. Is it premium? Rotate proteins?
Yes, Solid Gold is a good quality food that has been around for many years and has a good reputation. I think it is often a good idea to rotate protein sources and can help dogs be less picky. My dog eats grain-free Fromm. Should I switch to Fromm Gold food?
Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Unless your dog has a true grain allergy (which is very rare), then there is no problem feeding grains to your dog. If she likes the food, has good poops, and a good hair coat, and is a good weight, then feed it. The most important thing for dogs is to feed a lower fat, higher fibre diet as they get older (about age 7) as at this age they are more prone to gaining weight and diseases such as pancreatitis which are made worse by fatty foods. Yes, you are correct that there is concern that no grain foods may potentially linked to heart disease, and the FDA is now investigating that. Personally, I recommend feeding Gypsy Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, or Iams. I feed my own dogs Iams and they love it. I hope this helps!

Good grain puppy food for my 4-month-old? Switching from grain-free.
I agree. I do not recommend to feed pets a grain free diet unless they have a known grain allergy. There are a few brands that I recommend because I think they’re high quality and pets tend to like the taste. Royal Canin is my number one choice. It is highly digestible and low residue and this tends to result in good stool quality with low stool quantity. Another brand I like is Purina pro plan. Nutro is also a good brand. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I definitely understand your concern. I do think it would be best to switch them to a regular diet. There are many types out there that are affordable and good. I like the Purina Pro Plan shredded blends in that category because they are palatable, affordable and of very good quality.
