I’m assuming you meant ProZinc insulin and if so there is unfortunately not a cheaper alternative. While less expensive human insulin can on rare occasions be used successfully in cats it usually does not provide good control of diabetes. You also need to start over with dosing and frequent monitoring when switching from one insulin to another which would increase cost. It’s probably best to stick with ProZinc if Mikey is well regulated.

There are some great pet insurance options. Petplan https://www.gopetplan.com/?gclid=Cj0KCQiAnuDTBRDUARIsAL41eDosrrZFsRgpVAVLL6k_F2IrrDt9H8AFJ7x-QuxyiWiWqlGrefVsW1IaAkuVEALw_wcB Trupanion https://trupanion.com/ppc/best-care3?gclid=Cj0KCQiAnuDTBRDUARIsAL41eDphbfV14ZZQmmmX9klKZOtmCEUoABKrWSUkBaeNgsZTtmwX54QKaxUaAmitEALw_wcB ASPCA https://www.aspcapetinsurance.com/ Nationwide https://www.petinsurance.com/ppc-b-video.aspx?src=GoogleSearch&OM=CI0416&gclid=Cj0KCQiAnuDTBRDUARIsAL41eDodbdZFd2P6cBEoJISv8mOih682_m_1cgZ4c-drNOUNHCvsCKZXBEgaAvQOEALw_wcB Your best bet to get the most affordable plan is to just get insurance to cover just emergency expenses not wellness prevention. Then I would just pay for vaccinations and yearly visits out of pocket. Thank you for using PetCoach.

Congratulations on your new dog! I like Revolution if you are looking for a topical product. It consistently works well and is well tolerated. If you like the idea of an oral product better, I like Trifexis (it’s another all in one product). Sometimes though the pets can smell the Trifexis and they won’t eat it. In that instance, I like Simparica and Interceptor. My personal preference is oral products. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! A very good diet that is also accessible and not expensive is the Purina pro Plan shredded diets. You can get them at your local pet store. While it may not be an emergency, it is still ideal to have him checked for the bites and the itchiness. It is also very important to start a flea and tick preventative like Frontline plus. He may be itching due to allergies. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. A secondary infection is likely and also needs to be addressed. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!
