Proin

Proin is a chewable tablet medication for dogs containing the active ingredient phenylpropanolamine. It is used to help dogs manage the symptoms of urinary incontinence. It will not cure incontinence, but it helps to manage it. Consult your veterinarian to determine if Proin might be appropriate to help your dog suffering from urinary incontinence or leakage.

Proin usually takes a few days of treatment to see the full effect of the medication on your pet, but you may see improvements in an hour or two. Additionally, Proin should be taken continually according to the schedule you set with your veterinarian, as stopping treatment can cause a reoccurrence of the symptoms.

Dogs who are prescribed Proin phenylpropanolamine medication may experience restlessness or irritability. Pet parents may also notice an increased heart rate, increased blood pressure or loss of appetite in their pet. If you notice these side effects or incontinence persists or worsens, consult your veterinarian. In the rare event of an allergic reaction to the medication, symptoms may include facial swelling, hives, scratching, sudden onset of diarrhea, vomiting, shock, seizures, pale gums, cold limbs or coma. If any of these occur, contact your veterinarian immediately.

It’s important to give Proin exactly as your vet prescribes it, including keeping on the regular dosage amount and routine schedule. Your dog should continue to be on Proin for as long as your veterinarian advises. If you happen to miss a dose, consult your veterinarian for guidance.
