An enzymatic cleaner such as Nature's Miracle is the best for removing urine. It works by breaking down the actual urine particles to help remove smell and reduce staining. You can then use another cleaner as needed. Be sure to test any spots first with the enzymatic cleaner to make sure it doesn't harm what you are cleaning. Clothing and other loose fabrics can also be washed.

You can use plain vinegar and water in a 50/50 dilution to clean most hard surfaces. Commercial products that are safe to use include Green Works wipes, the Seventh Generation line and the Mrs. Meyer's line of "eco-cleaners".

Seeing that your kitty is 13 years old, it is a given that Candy has arthritis in her hips and possibly elbows. This makes squatting hard and painful and it is likely that she tries to hold it as long as she can to avoid the pain and then loses the poop or has to go wherever she just is at that moment. Try making a low entrance to her litter boxes or put steps up to the rim, to make it easier for her to go in. Have your kitty checked for arthritis and ask your vet to prescribe pain medication. The smell on the couch may be hard to clean as the pee probably entered the fabric and dribbled inside. Usually an enzymatic cleaner available from your pet shop takes care of that.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. This is a frustrating thing and is very likely behavioral since it is both poop and urine. If it’s the exact same spot on the bed, the first thing I would try is getting a litter box for right on the bed where he goes. If he goes for that, awesome. Leave it there a few days (cleaning it daily of course) and then slowly start moving it toward the side of the bed, an inch or two each day. This could be that he feels there is competition with another cat, has anxiety, cor some other thing that we may never figure out. Spraying that area with products designed to get rid of the smell, rearranging the furniture, keeping th bedroom door shut at all times are also all tactics to try. Finally, speak to your vet about anti-anxiety/behavior modification medication which can help quite a bit with inappropriate elimination. Best wishes to you and Jack.
