My puppy ate a dead chipmunk, why does he still smell bad days later?
I can understand your concern. It is likely he got some of the carcass stuck in his teeth or stuck to his haircoat. i am not sure if you can pinpoint exactly where the smell is coming from on his body, but this would help also. If he still had parts left inside he would be symptomatic (vomiting, not eating), so that is unlikely. Try brushing his teeth daily, with pet toothbrush and toothpaste for the next week straight, and also giving him a good bath with puppy shampoo to see if this helps. If there is no resolve, or if the smell seems to be coming from his rear end, then he likely needs a probiotic such as Culturelle over the counter to help get his intestinal flora back to normal. My new Petco mice keep dying within a week. What's the problem?

I do need a little more information to give you a better idea about what is going on - were there any signs prior to death? Some mice carry bacteria and viruses that do not necessarily make them sick, but can be transmitted to other mice and be harmful. My dog with EPI has terrible body odor. What's causing the smell?
I'm glad that Lyla seems to be doing well with her treatment. If the smell seems to be coming from Lyla's skin, I would have your veterinarian do some simple skin tests to see if she has a bacterial or yeast overgrowth that is causing the odor. If so, they might be able to recommend a shampoo that would help with the problem. If they can't find anything on her skin or a source of the odor, I would recommend trying a probiotic and see if that makes a difference. Sometimes when the digestive tract has been abnormal, we need to give the body its good bacteria back in order for everything to get back to normal. Cat has chronic diarrhea & pees when seeing other animals. What to do?
Submit a stool sample to your veterinarian to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial overgrowth. Deworm him if indicated. You can also have the vet collect a sterile urine sample to submit for urinalysis and culture to rule out UTI or stones. In the meantime, try a 24 hour fast followed by a bland diet in small, frequent amounts. Begin with one tablespoon of food every hour and gradually increase the amount. Feed bland until the stool is normal then transition slowly to the regular diet. Consider a veterinary probiotic, such as FortiFlora, ProViable or ProStora, to promote gut health. A pheromone product such as Feliway spray or plug in diffuser may decrease any anxiety. A small animal repellant along the border of your property will keep strange animals away and out of sight. Thoroughly clean soiled areas using an enzymatic cleaner such as Nature's Miracle.
