Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think the Purina Pro Plan diets are very good and also affordable. Both dry and wet diets are equally good in general especially for younger cats. I prefer wet food in older cats when I am concerned about kidney disease just to increase the water content in the diet. Good luck and have a great day!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your cats. It is fine to feed dry food if it is well balanced and Purina is. You are correct in that dry food can lead to obesity. You want a defined waist on each cat from the top and side views as well as being able to feel the ribs. If your cats meet these requirements, then you are doing a great job!

Science diet and Purina have very good cat formulas for cats. I would find one that is appropriate for your cats age and health status. For example, they make a hairball formula if that is problem or an over weight formula if weight loss is needed there is no benefit of feeding dry over canned, so it is personal preference for that.

Any major brand name that has an indoor care cat food line would be good. So this would mean something like Purina indoor cat, pedigree, Hills or Royal Canin. If you want to change the food do so slowly as sudden food changes can cause diarrhea and inappetence in a cat. So gradually mix the new food in with their old food, increasing the amount of new food over about a week time.

As long as Julie does not have any health concerns that require a special diet, this food should be fine for her, you just may need to monitor her that she doesn't lose weight if she is currently at a good weight. You may need to give her a little extra food that your overweight cat does not get if she does begin to lose weight.
