Is an unknown puppy milk replacer safe for my puppies to drink?

My puppy needs milk. What if I can't find puppy milk replacer?
While there are some recipes available online they are not nutritionally balanced. Some people also will recommend using goats milk but it is also not ideal for a puppy's nutritional requirements and can cause either constipation or diarrhea. If you cannot find puppy milk replacer like Esbilac at a pet supply or feed store I'd recommend contacting a veterinarian near you. You can also order it online. Emergency veterinary clinics are often willing to sell milk replacer from their stock if you need it on an urgent basis.

Is it safe for my 4-week-old puppy to drink regular cow's milk?
Around 4 weeks of age, you can begin to introduce soft puppy food (canned or moistened kibble) into the their diets in addition to their puppy milk replacer, such as Esbilac. Dogs of any age should not be given cow's milk, as most are lactose intolerant and can develop vomiting and diarrhea.

Why can't newborn puppies drink Cosi pet milk? What milk is safe?
Good question! No, this is not OK to give. This is more to be used as a supplement to older puppies/dogs that are already eating regular food. Newborn puppies need a milk replacer like Esbilac.
