Hello. We generally do not recommend aspirin because of the same problems seen in people. It can cause severe gastric upset & possibly ulcerations, & aspirin decreases platelet activity that can lead to prolonged & abnormal bleeding. Only use aspirin on the advice of your veterinarian, or consider one of the newer & safer anti-inflammatories available for dogs. Definitely continue your joint supplements, though. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Aspirin is used in dogs off label, mostly pet owners choose this. Vets do not like aspirin. . It can be very hard on the stomach and intestines in dogs causing ulcers and/or vomiting. You need to do what you think is best. As long as you understand the risks. https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/aspirin/ Good luck!

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Anti-inflammatories need to be prescribed by your vet. But I highly recommend starting an Omega 3 fish oil which is a natural anti-inflammatory. I like Nordic Naturals or VRS Omega Benefits. Also I prefer veterinary glucomamines like Dasuquin or Glycoflex. I wish you the best! https://www.vrshealth.com/canine-products/omegadog/ https://m.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=34368 https://m.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=33709

Hello. Just like you & me, if there is no longer any significant pain it is best to stop the aspirin. If Katie needs long term pain management, there are other medications that are safer than aspirin. The problem with aspirin is how quickly it can effect the clotting mechanisms, so generally I like to limit its use to about 3 days at a time. Take with your vet about safer options & ancillary treatments such as Adequan injections & glucosamine supplements if her pain continues & is due to osteoarthritis. First of all, NEVER give a dog any human medications unless directed by a veterinarian. Aspirin is extremely irritation to the stomach and will cause gastric bleeding very easily in dogs. If the weather has gotten very cold where you are, this could be affecting his attitude. The change in food may have put him a little off balance even though he's not showing any apparent symptoms. I recommend getting him in to see your vet, just to make sure there isn't something underlying that is causing him to be lethargic and subdued. If it's enough of a change to concern you, it's worth getting your vet to check just to be on the safe side.
