Since Cash is a small dog, you might consider one of the more expensive options such as a dehydrated or fresh food diet. They are able to control their ingredients much more easily than a large manufacturing plant does that makes dry food. I have been very pleased with The Honest Kitchen ( https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/ ) and Just Food For Dogs ( https://www.justfoodfordogs.com/ ). Both have foods that will not have chicken and both have options without any poultry. You do not have to worry about the potential addition of chicken fat which a number of dry food companies do as well. If those are not good options for Cash, then you may consider a canned food which again will generally be safer than a dry food at making sure there isn't any chicken contamination. I have been pleased with Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Diets ( https://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/ ), but be sure to read the labels carefully. Good luck! I hope that was helpful and gives you some ideas. Thanks for using PetCoach.

You have a lot of flexibility since she's a young/middle age adult, and I'm assuming she's healthy. Basically any food made by a reputable company is going to be fine for her. There has been more and more evidence coming out recently that grain-free diets aren't healthy for dogs (linked to a particular type of heart failure called Dilated Cardiomyopathy) and raw food also presents risk of salmonella and e.coli to both the dog and family around the dog, so I'd generally recommend staying away from both of those options. The brands I like are Hills, Purina, and Royal Canin because they have veterinary nutritionists on staff, have good quality control, and generally make solid products. I hope that helps a bit!

I would not recommend blue buffalo as I have seen some negative side effects of their urine. One of my favorite more natural foods that dogs seem to like is natural balance limited ingredient diets. They have a lot of flavors. I hope this helps.

Hi, while there are many opinions on which dog food is best, the general consensus is that any food that lists meat as the first ingredient is a decent food. Corn is just filler and is not harmful to a dog unless he has allergies or a sensitive stomach. Your food should not be a large percentage of corn. Grain free food is very popular as some dogs can be sensitive to grain. There is no easy answer as to what is the best dog food out there, it is what works for your particular dog. The most expensive food is not necessarily needed. The organic and holistic foods are aimed at people thinking that dogs have the same nutritional needs, in my opinion. I would chose a high quality food with meat listed as the first ingredient, a low percentage of filler like corn, and no extra additives like colors or dyes. If you choose a high quality food like those purchased at a pet store and your dog seems to be tolerating it well, stick with that food. If he has diarrhea or skin problems, he may need a different type of meat or grain free. Science diet has been around for a long time and is a very reputable brand for vets and pet owners. But ultimately, it is your choice. You are Prince's caregiver and have to decide what is best for him, which is a mostly meat, low additive food regardless of the brand. Puppy food should be fed until he is 1 year old then feed adult food of the same brand. If you are looking for organic food, Newman's own makes an organic food, as well as Trader Joe's, Spot's choice, Wellness, etc. I would google a list of organic foods and compare their ingredients. Dogs do not need organic food, this is more of a preference of their owners, like if you eat only organic food and want your dog to do the same. Most dogs are very tolerant of most types of foods and as long as introduced to a new brand slowly, should do just fine. Good luck with your puppy and I hope this helps you decide on a dog food for him!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I do not recommend a raw diet for Spoty. These diets are not balanced appropriately for domesticated dogs and can carry bacteria (salmonella) can cause diarrhea and sometimes death. This bacteria is also contagious to humans. I recommend diets made my quality pet food companies. In the US, I like Hills/Science Diet, Royal Canin, Purina, and Iams. These diets are made by veterinary nutritionists and tested for safety for decades. Dogs typically don’t get bored with the same diet like humans do. If they aren’t offered anything different they won’t know there is something better. If you wanted to add something more I would get the canned food that matches the dry food you pick and add that to his food. Watch how much you feed so you don’t give him too many calories. Good luck and kisses to Spoty!
