Smart Purchase

I’m pretty happy with these cages. There are a few flaws but for the cost the issues are slight and can be worked with. However, I have purchased 5 of these specifically and will buy a few more.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Perfect for two young rats

I've bought this cage before and have been very pleased with it. Easy to clean, lots of room for a couple of smallish rats, for example, my two little hairless girls. The one major drawback is the flimsy shelves and how you have to install them. Should be sturdier and easier to install.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Decent cage but not for gerbils

Softballmom02

We bought this for our gerbils to give them more room. We had to modify it quite a bit before we could put them in because some of the areas were just too far apart and they would have been able to get out very easily. The pan is not deep enough and although it’s easier to clean than a tank it’s still not as convenient as a pull out tray (which I wish I would have gone with!) Overall it’s not bad especially if you have bigger animals than a gerbil. The two doors are really convenient for reaching the lower and upper levels. We will use this for now but will definitely get a pull out tray cage next time. I must say though our girls love the room the have now! This cage is way bigger than I imagined!

Yes, I recommend this product.

The green bottom to this cage came fairly dented up, but there are no real problems. Everything works. The wires are all in good shape, though I did need to do some realistic tweaking of some wires to ensure security. Assembling it was easy, and it has plenty of space to offer for my hamsters.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Holes too big

KatheL

I bought this cage for mice because the description specifically said it was for mice. When it came, we assembled it and put the mice in it (we have 7 albino mice). They loved the spaciousness and the multi-levels. The next morning I found one of the mice sitting on top of the cage (outside). I put her back in and then watched as she walked back up the cage wall and right through the holes on the top. The wire spacing is too large to keep mice in. Maybe if you buy smaller spaced chicken wire and reinforce it, it will work, but not the way it is shipped to you.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Poor construction

I have 3 male 6 month old rats who are already very big. I got this cage from a friend when they outgrew their old one and have to say that the ONLY reason I've kept it is because it was free and I'm a college student on a budget. It came to me already partially set up and I basically just had to unfold it. I'm not sure how it is originally packaged. The two doors are nice and provide easy access to all parts of the cage but that is really the only good thing here. I have already had to make several adjustments to it. Firstly, the locking construction of the corners is poor. You have the basic hooks that clip around the bars, but they don't stay closed and I've ended up with zip ties holding my cage up. Secondly, the tray is only about an inch deep. This is fine if you're using a bedding like Carefresh, but I prefer Kaytee granules and when my boys climb or play the granules got EVERYWHERE. I've had to rig a four inch plastic siding around the bottom of the cage to fix this, blocking the lower door. The top of the cage does not connect to the base... it simply sits in the tray. This means that putting it back together is a bother and forget moving the thing once it's constructed. The only place for my cage is at the end of my bed and have to vacuum my sheets down every time I clean the cage because I inevitably have overflow or spills from putting the top back on. Continuing, if you think this might work as a 3 level cage be warned that the "levels" are only about 4 inch wide wire pieces that tend to slip out of place. I've ended up adding more wire covered in fabric and rigging a few of the ramps up as levels, since my rats simply climb the sides of the cage. After a lot of construction I now I have a 4 level cage with lots of nooks and crannies to climb on and squeeze through, but it took a lot of effort and the cage is not only very difficult to clean now, but all the levels are held in place with more zipties. Also, if you have males that mark heavily, prepare to find a thick yellow film stuck to the wires of your cage. It's gross. Be warned. This cage is not suitable for 3 rats unless they are very small females. My boys get about 3 hours of free roam time a night now to make up for their generally cramped quarters. Scuffles wobble the cage, but all the hidey holes I've rigged up help. I'm currently in the market for a new cage because of how much bother this one is . If you need an extra cage for one or two rats this could work, but forget ferrets. If you're thinking long term opt for something sturdier with a deeper base.

No, I do not recommend this product.

The quality of this cage is poor. Some bars were broken. Some bars look as if they were "fixed". For the price, I could of gotten a better cage somewhere else. Its sturdy and big enough for several rats, just the quality is a issue and disapointment.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Is this a good cage for a ferret?

  1. Too small. Ferrets should be free roamed or have a VERY large cage.

Is this a good cage for a chinchilla

  1. This would not be a suitable cage for a chinchilla. They need much more space. I would recommend a double critter nation.

Is this cage good for a chinchilla?

Would this work for an adult ferret? I am thinking about getting one and I need a cage first

I’m thinking about getting a rat, would this be suitable for a rat? If not what would you recommend?

      1. First of all, RATS. ARE. SOCIAL!!! Please do at least a little research, I'm begging you. And you could house 3 females or 2 males in this cage.

How wide are the gaps between the wires on the cage? I have small mice that would love this but read a review that someone’s mouse was able to escape.

      1. Good Day, Thank you for reaching out to us. The Chew Proof Three Level Small Animal Critter Cage has 1/2" wire spacing. Hope this information has been helpful.

I was thinking about getting a ferret, but i'm having a hard time finding a cage. Would this cage be a good choice? If not, what would you recommend? :) Thanks!

      1. Good Day, Thank you for reaching out to us. The Chew Proof Three Level Small Animal Critter Cage would not be a suitable cage for a ferret as its not intended for one. Is this cage good for 2 Guinea pigs?

      1. Good Day, Thank you for reaching out to us. The Chew Proof Three Level Small Animal Critter Cage is not intended for a guinea pig so we would not recommend it. Hope this information has been helpful.

      Good for gerbils??

      1. Absolutely not. The mesh bottom on the levels were big enough for my fancy hamsters feet to fall through and trap him. Also poor build.

Can You Paint or 'decorate' the cage?

      1. I wouldn't suggest painting it because the fumes can harm your pet. Also, if it flakes off, your Jammie might eat it and die. So, I recommend NOT painting it. :D
