Customers say

Customers overwhelmingly praise the food for exceptional palatability, with nearly all dogs eagerly eating and showing clear excitement at mealtime. Even picky eaters, including Greyhounds and Huskies, suddenly become enthusiastic, finishing bowls instantly. Many report noticeable health improvements including shinier coats, reduced itching, better digestion, and increased energy, with some resolving long-standing skin sensitivities. Customers express deep trust in the high-quality, human-grade ingredients and appreciate the transparency. A very small number report their dogs refused to eat it, though this is rare compared to overwhelming positive response.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have tried several prescription foods for sensitive stomachs and nothing has worked. A friend told me about this food and it didn’t contain any of my dog’s allergens so I figured I’d give it a try. Both of my dogs love this food! They can’t stand waiting for it to rehydrate and I believe if they had the chance they’d eat it as is! My dog with food allergies had a red belly before starting this food and had lost hair but now looks great! We finally found the right food.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My dog really likes this food but I wish it had lower carb content. I tried switching to the chicken and duck which has higher protein/fat content but my sensitive pup had skin allergies with that one (maybe because it contains egg. ) He does well on this turkey version but I often add leftover meat if we have it to reduce overall carbs. Not sure why they feel the need to add honey to this one instead of just more turkey.

Our little Labradoodle Millie absolutely loves this dehydrated food. She has periodically suffered with bilious vomiting. I top her Honest Kitchen clusters with the dehydrated food. I hold back a ramekin of the moistened food. I hand feed her 1/2 before bed and the other half early in the AM. This seems to have eased her empty stomach issue. Thank you Honest Kitchen!

Questions

1 - 4 of 4 Questions

Why is there dehydrated garlic in the food? Garlic isn't good for dogs. I was thinking of trying the food until I saw garlic as one of the ingredients. Do you make food without garlic?

  1. Hi there, Thanks for reaching out! Garlic is actually only harmful in incredibly large amounts. In small amounts, it offers many health benefits. Many holistic vets and nutritionists include a small amount of garlic in their homemade recipes. The amount of garlic that we include in some of our foods (just 0.25%) is not enough to be harmful even to the smallest of dogs. Garlic helps the immune system fight infections and disease as it strengthens digestion and stimulates the intestinal tract. Garlic can have a powerful antioxidant effect, which aids white blood cells to fight infections by stimulating other immune cells. It also has anti-fungal and antibiotic properties. Garlic has also been shown to lower blood pressure, reduce the buildup of plaque, regulate blood sugar, prevent blood clots, reduce yeast infections and help prevent cancer. Its strongest affinities are for the liver, blood, cardiovascular system, and immune system. Garlic contains protein, fiber, potassium, phosphorous, calcium, sodium, vitamin A, thiamine, niacin, taurine, zinc, riboflavin, and many other nutritive compounds. We have several recipes in our line that are made with a very small quantity of garlic, as well as a selection of recipes that are garlic-free. Are the dehydrated recipes low in sodium. Two of my dogs have cardiac disease.

  1. Hi there, Thanks for reaching out! Although we don't make any prescription foods we do have recipes that fit the feeding model for low-sodium diets. Sodium is an essential nutrient that's required for the health of all dogs, even those with heart conditions, and it's an AAFCO requirement for a complete and balanced recipe. So, there will be at least a minimum amount of sodium present in any complete diet, and that's a good thing! For our customers who have been recommended by their vets/nutritionists to provide a low sodium diet to their dogs, here are our lowest sodium diets: Limited Ingredient Turkey Recipe https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/products/dehydrated-limited-ingredient-turkey-dog-food Whole Grain Turkey Recipe https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/products/dehydrated-whole-grain-turkey-dog-food Whole Grain Beef Recipe https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/products/dehydrated-whole-grain-beef-dog-food You can find full AAFCO Nutrient Profiles for each of our complete and balanced recipes on our website. To find these, just visit the recipe page for the recipe you're interested in, scroll down to 'NUTRITION' and you'll see a link that says "View Nutrient Profile." Here you can find the sodium content for each recipe. I hope this helps! Thanks so much
