Just like you, your puppy or dog is a unique individual and their feeding requirements will vary with breed, environment, age and activity. That's why we suggest using the feeding guide as a starting point, and monitoring your puppy or dog's weight and adjusting amounts as needed. We also recommend feeding your pet twice daily and always keeping fresh, clean water available. When switching diets, it's important to transition your dog or puppy as it takes time for their digestive system to adapt to the nutrient levels in ACANA. Over a 5-7 day period, gradually mix in ACANA, increasing the amount each day so that by day 7 you are feeding 100% ACANA. See your veterinarian regularly. To help maintain freshness, we recommend sealing the bag tightly and storing it in a cool, dry location.

Customers say

Customers overwhelmingly praise this lamb and pumpkin recipe for exceptional palatability and digestive benefits. Most dogs show immediate enthusiasm at mealtime, with picky eaters becoming eager participants. Many reviewers report significant improvements in sensitive stomachs, solid stools, and reduced itching or skin reactions, particularly for dogs with poultry allergies. Customers express strong confidence in the real, recognizable ingredients and absence of fillers or artificial additives. A few note the kibble size runs large for small breeds, and some mention a strong odor, but these minor concerns are vastly outweighed by positive feedback. Overall, most customers consider this a worthwhile choice for digestive health and palatability.

I’ve been on the search for dog food with very limited ingredients especially without fillers like corn, lentils, peas, etc and I finally found one that works best with my Labrador retriever. She devours her food like I’ve never seen before. Previously I had her on the purina pro plan sensitive skin and stomach salmon and lamb. She never showed much interest to either and took her awhile sometimes hours to even start eating her food. Now as soon as I poor the Acana line of wholesome grains dog food she doesn’t hesitate to eat and gets so excited when I pour her food like she has never ate before. I would highly recommend the Acana wholesome grains line to anyone.

Dry, old, stale

I’ve been feeding my dogs Acana food for nearly 20 years now both my first and second set of dogs and never had issues until now. I always alternate between red meat, salmon, wild fish, duck. And decided now to try lamb. It was horrid. Dry, old, stale. Of course my dogs won’t touch it no matter how much chicken broth I put in or mix with shredded meats to moisten it and add taste and flavor. Epic waste of $100 for a dog food that’s supposed to be one of the best.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Problems after feeding

OH-Lover

I chose this food because my dogs have issues with chicken and dairy and I was looking for a higher quality dog food for them than the LID lamb-based kibble I was feeding them. The added probiotics seemed like a plus. After about 6 weeks of feeding, both my dogs (same breed) were having separate issues - one dog developed a full-body skin infection that required a 30-day antibiotics regimen. He's over 100 lbs. so just picture we're dealing with a BIG skin infection. And the other had such a bad ear infection that he broke the skin on his neck from so much scratching and he got hot spots on his toes. The ingredients list didn't show any chicken or chicken-related ingredients and were so similar to the other lamb LID they had been on forever so I have no idea what in this recipe caused our dogs' flare-ups. They weren't getting anything else new other than the Acana and we have had no issues after going back to the old lamb LID kibble so I have to assume something in this Acana recipe is to blame. Is it the probiotics? Maybe there's a higher sugar content because of the pumpkin and they got yeast infections? I have no idea but it's a bummer we can't feed our dogs this brand since it seems so wholesome.

Severe Diarrhea...

Star

We have fed this food for months. Our German Shepherds did good until they didn't. It was a new bag with a different date. They both had diarrhea and would not even eat it after a few days. We still had a bag of the other date and put that down and they both ate it. Tried again with the new bag and Nope. Would not touch it. We called Acana and even sent them the video. They said they would investigate. We heard back and they said it was fine. So we just would feed from the new dated bag and all was good. Until we got to about 1/4 of the bag and now...severe diarrhea. We are thinking that the coating comes off the kibble and accumulates in the bottom half bag. And causes the upset. How to fix that. Can not buy the food and only feed half a bag. Too expensive. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Best food so far

Frenchies Dad

Minimal ingredient dog food. 5 year old Frenchie. Loves food. Lamb was recommended by trainer. Tried chicken, beef and Turkey from the “big company” that advertises (fresh pet). Dog hated Beef, barely ate the poultry. Pumpkin is especially good for frenchies as the breeder had recommended it from 6 weeks to keep folds in face from getting infected. It works separately or in this food ingredient list. Only issue is it’s expensive. But dog is our child.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 10 of 11 Questions

After reading the review where there were live worms in your food, I am concerned. What have you done to address this problem? I am trying to find a food that will help with his skin problem and that will firm up his stools. This looked promising...

  1. We take all concerns seriously and pet health, safety and food quality are top priorities for us. We investigate each concern whenever possible. Please don't hesitate to reach out to our Customer Care team if there are concerns or questions we can help with. We'd be happy to provide you with a food recommendation for your dog.

My dog is a 15 pound 10 year old shi tzu. She is allergic to beef, pork, peas, corn, brewers yeast and flaxseed. Is the singles wholesome grains limited lamb & pumpkin the only dry dog food that doesn’t contain these ingredients? I want to try more than 1

  1. Hi there! You could also consider our ACANA Duck & Pear recipe. From our Wholesome Grains line, our Lamb & Pumpkin, Duck & Pumpkin or Sea To Stream are all options to consider!

Why is there a 2% sugar content? Is that from the pumpkin?

  1. We don't add sugar to our recipes, it is a component of the total carbohydrate content and it is naturally occurring from the ingredients themselves.

What kind of fish is used for the fish oil? My dog is allergic to Salmon

  1. The fish oil in this recipe would be Pollock and/or Herring. Depending on seasonal availability it may be one or the other, or a blend of both!

Is the limited ingredient lamb , gmo free?

  1. yes

Is this formula similar to Farmina Lamb, Blueberry and ancestral grains? How is this better than the Farmina? The bag you sell seems nearly the same. But Farmina carries the 25.6 lb bag which is Very Nice for multiple dogs homes. Considering this...

  1. Farmina lamb and blueberry is a completely different recipe compared to this food. They are not "nearly the same". You can see every single ingredient between the two by reading the ingredient list. You can read this on the back of dog food bags or by the ingredient descriptions of the dog foods online. It is a completely different formula entirely. Comparing these two foods, being annoyed at the size of the bags, and assuming these recipes are the same due to the few words you read on the front of the bad is ridiculous. Read the ingredients on the foods.

Is this food good for large breeds? I have a 8 month old German Shepherd.

  1. We don't recommend this recipe for a large breed puppy (puppy with an expected adult weight of 65lbs or more). Please contact our Customer Care Team for more information at customercare@championpetfoods.com or toll free at 1-877-939-0006.

How much salt grams per serverings does it have and the ish?

  1. Our ACANA Wholesome Grains Lamb & Apple diet contains 0.48% sodium. This is equal to 0.53g sodium per cup.

is the kibble size too big for a 5 lb. toy poodle?

  1. The kibble is a medium size, we find this works for most dogs. If you would like more information please contact our Customer Care Team at customercare@championpetfoods.com or 1-877-939-0006.

Does anyone know the sodium content of this food as well as the American Waters one?

  1. Hi Marisagsd - The sodium content of our ACANA Lamb & Pumpkin recipe is 0.48%, while the sodium content of our ACANA American Waters recipe is 0.55%.
