Tetras are a beautiful fish with many being brightly colored. Enjoy these fish that are generally quiet, non-aggressive schooling fish. They are quite active and will inhabit all levels of the aquarium. As a relatively low-maintenance fish, they can be great for the beginner and advanced aquarist.
Since tetras do best in schools of 5 or more, a tank with a minimum of 10 gallons is recommended—although larger will provide more ample room for them to swim. Provide plenty of décor for hiding places and security. Stable water quality is critical for tetras—so a good filter is a must—and testing should be performed regularly to ensure parameters are correct. Tetras are tropical fish so a heater is needed to keep water the appropriate temperature, as well as lighting to provide a proper day/night cycle. High-quality tropical flake or pellet food should be the main diet for your tetras—with occasional treats such as bloodworms, brine shrimp or mysis shrimp.
