Rating Snapshot
Review this Product
Customers say
Customers are divided on this filter's effectiveness. Many report it fails to maintain water clarity in turtle tanks, with water becoming cloudy within hours or days despite proper setup, requiring frequent water changes. However, some find it works well in smaller tanks under 20 gallons with light bioloads, keeping water crystal clear with weekly maintenance. Reviewers praise its quiet operation and easy installation, though several report mechanical failures, sponge cartridges falling out, and durability issues. Overall, performance depends heavily on tank size and bioload—effective for small setups but inconsistent for larger turtle habitats.

Questions
Does this filter work good with sand substrate? As in the filter won’t break with sand in the waters
- I used it with sand for a bit and it worked ok. It’s not the best filter but should work with substrate.

What happens if I have a 40 gallon pond and I use this product? Would the product still work?
- No no no no. Sorry to say this but this is only good for a 10 gallon. You would need a 120 gallon filter because if it’s 40 gallons you need 3 times that. Also it’s not the best filter for a pond.

Will this filter keep the turtle tank from smelling
- A good filter should but this won’t. I used for about 6 months and then the water got cloudy and smelled horrible. I would use a Aqua clear. They’re about the same price. And work so much better.

Is this able to be used for an axolotl?
- I wouldn’t. Axolotls need good water. This won’t work well and still could hurt you axolotl. I would just use a sponge filter.
