Description
Zonisamide is a sulfa drug with anti-convulsant effects. Zonisamide is used together with other anti-convulsant medications to treat partial seizures in adults with epilepsy. Zonisamide is a anticonvulsant used as an adjunctive (second medication) in the treatment of seizure disorders by decreasing abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Zonisamide Capsules should be given orally as directed by your veterinarian. Do not discontinue this medication abruptly. Please consult your veterinarian before making any changes or discontinuing the prescribed dosing schedule. This medication can be given with or without food. If your pet vomits or appears unwell after receiving a dose on an empty stomach, give future doses with food or a small treat. If vomiting continues, contact your veterinarian. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant: avoid handling this medication if possible. If handling is necessary, wear gloves and exercise extreme caution during handling and administration. All pet owners should wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling (even if gloves are worn).
