Can this be used for small pets (eg bunnies, rats, hamsters, or mice)? Or is it just for dogs? I'm preparing for that day when I'm going to need to fit ALL of them in my car along with parakeets and others...ugh...

Is the inside cover removable and wash able
- Yes. Inside cover/liner is only attached to outside by Velcro strips on all sides. I wash my cover/liner on regular or perm-press cycle; warm/cold setting. I put it in the dryer on regular or perm-press setting. Comes out great. No fading or shrinking. It can also be spot cleaned along with the outside cover. Fabric does not stain easily.

I have a 40 lb. Shih Tsu that is overweight, and he jumps around alot in the car, and just a seat belt doesnt work for him. Will this size and style work for him and have him sit in a comfortable position? Does this come with a belt to put across him?
- Properly used this seat's constraints will control just about any dog wearing a good fitting harness.The seat comes with a tie-down ring sewn into the back center. It has an adjustable detachable tie-down strap the is easily clipped to a harness. 40 lbs. may exceed the recommended weight limit. However, the seat is very sturdy. It easily held my 30 lb. terrier mix.The question would be: can a 40 lb. Shih Tsu be able to sit comfortably in a 16" wide x 8" high x 14" deep basket style car seat? Measure your dog's bed or any area where he sits. I cut a piece of paper 16" x 14" and sat my dogs on it. That way I could tell if they would fit in the seat before I bought it. Check Petco online for other brands and styles that may accommodate his weight.
