Description

PROZINC (protamine zinc recombinant human insulin) is the simple and reliable choice for diabetes control in dogs and cats. It is a veterinarian-approved and prescribed injectable insulin for cats and dogs. With just two daily doses a day in cats and once-a-day dosing in most dogs, delivered before or just after a meal, PROZINC insulin provides predictable glycemic control in pets with diabetes. A single PROZINC injection has an appropriate duration of activity (10-14 hours) in cats and an extended duration of activity (16->24 hours) in dogs. If your cat or dog has been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, you understand the importance of regulating blood glucose and controlling clinical signs. With its appropriate duration of action in cats, and extended duration of action in dogs, PROZINC insulin will provide glycemic control and help improve the quality of life of your cat or dog. PROZINC insulin requires refrigeration, as well as the use of U-40 syringes, which are sold separately.

  • - Approved by the FDA as a first-line treatment for diabetes in cats, is available for use in dogs
  • - Appropriate glycemic control provided by 16 to >24 hr. extended duration of action in dogs
  • - Reduces hyperglycemia and hyperglycemia-associated clinical signs in both cats and dogs with diabetes mellitus
  • - Administered with pet-appropriate U-40 syringes4 (sold separately) to ensure accurate dosing and to minimize error
  • - PROZINC (protamine zinc recombinant human insulin) has been rigorously tested for safety and efficacy in cats and dogs

USE OF A SYRINGE OTHER THAN A U-40 SYRINGE WILL RESULT IN INCORRECT DOSING. FOR SUBCUTANEOUS INJECTION ONLY. DO NOT SHAKE OR AGITATE THE VIAL. PROZINC (protamine zinc recombinant human insulin) should be mixed by gently rolling the vial prior to withdrawing each dose from the vial. Once mixed, PROZINC suspension has a white, cloudy appearance. Clumps or visible white particles can form in insulin suspensions: do not use the product if clumps or visible white particles persist after gently rolling the vial. Using a U-40 insulin syringe, the injection should be administered subcutaneously on the back of the neck or on the side of the cat or dog. See full prescribing details for dosage.

Cats and dogs presenting with severe ketoacidosis, anorexia, lethargy, and/or vomiting should be stabilized with short-acting insulin and appropriate supportive therapy until their condition is stabilized. As with all insulin products, careful patient monitoring for hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia is essential to attain and maintain adequate glycemic control and to prevent associated complications. Overdose can result in profound hypoglycemia and death. Glucocorticoids, progestogens, and certain endocrinopathies can have an antagonistic effect on insulin activity. Glucocorticoid and progestogen use should be avoided. The safety and effectiveness of PROZINC insulin in breeding, pregnant, and lactating cats and dogs has not been evaluated. The safety and effectiveness of PROZINC insulin in kittens and puppies has not been evaluated.

Customers say

Customers overwhelmingly praise this flea and tick protection for its rapid, powerful action and broad pest coverage. Most report pets remain completely free of fleas and ticks for weeks or months, even in high-risk environments like wooded areas. Reviewers highlight the easy, non-messy topical application that dries quickly without skin irritation. Many note dramatic reductions in scratching within days and improved overall pet comfort. A very small number report occasional ineffectiveness or rare adverse reactions, but these are vastly outweighed by strong satisfaction across the board.

TERRIBLE Fulfillment of Order

Bridgejumper

I have had my ProZinc insulin deliveries botched by Vetco/Vetsource several times, and today was the last straw. My package (delivered by UPS, not my choice) was laying on my front walk, in the sun, in Texas, and I had received NO notice of delivery from the carrier. When I opened the soft insulated envelope, the icepack was completely melted, and the gel inside the ice pack was oozing from a break in the icepack's seam. There was goo all over the inside of the package. The insulin vial's box was smashed and unusable to protect the insulin vial. I will NEVER again order from any pet pharmacy that uses Vetsource/Vetco to fulfill its prescriptions. Totally inept fulfillment process and people there.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Long and inefficient process

All the process took too much time, my cat almost died waiting for the insuline. We had to buy it from the veterinary clinic with a high surcharge and the insuline from Petco wasn’t pack it well either, the ice was already watery when it finally got home.

No, I do not recommend this product.

FRONTLINE® Shield for Dogs (XS, 5-10 lbs)

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] FRONTLINE® Shield for Dogs (XS, 5-10 lbs) was very easy to apply topically to my small dog. 3 doses come in a box (3 month supply). It works to fight/shield your dog from adult fleas & their eggs (& larvae), ticks, mosquitoes, chewing lice, & stable flies. One dose lasts one month.

FRONTLINE Shield for Dogs Does a Good Job!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We use FRONTLINE Shield for Dogs Does and it works great on our black lab mix. He stayed flea and tick-free all season when we used this. We have a large yard that backs up to the woods, so we were worried about fleas and ticks. But FRONTLINE Shield for Dogs did its job and kept him protected all season long.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have a very active pup who enjoys the outdoors and chasing chickens. We were able to use this before our vet visit with no issues. Went on well, dog didn’t seem to mind and we did not find any ticks on him.

Long trusted product for my dogs

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have four dogs and they all use Frontline to protect from fleas and ticks. We have deer ticks in the woods behind our house, but I very rarely find any on my dogs (and when I do, they are very recently latched). I have used Frontline for many years and it is very reliable. I will mention that it seems they changed the design of the tube and this was slightly harder to open than previously-- but it was easy enough to cut open with scissors.

Questions

1 - 3 of 3 Questions

We live in the Nevada desert can the ice pack they use in shipping be increased to 3 or 4 instead of the two that they used last time. I have a concern as our weather is now in the triple digits and the last order of insulin was just cool not cold.

How carefully is the insulin handled during shipping? I want to order online but am concerned about the handling as insulin should not be shaken or dropped.

    1. The insulin is in a glass bottle inside a paper carton, inside a plastic bag, inside a foam cooler with ice packs (since it has to be refrigerated), inside a cardboard shipping box. Shipped usually priority to keep it cold. Once you unpack it at home, be careful not to drop the glass bottle, I keep mine in the paper carton in refrigerator. Do not shake the bottle before extracting, instead roll it gently to mix, so that bubbles do not form.

    is this shipped refrigerated

    1. Yes. They have it in a cooler with ice packs. You have to pay $19.99 overnight shipping. I order 2 at a time.
