Customers say

Customers overwhelmingly praise this algae treatment for rapidly clearing pond blooms, with most reporting crystal-clear water within three to five days. Many highlight its effectiveness against green and planktonic algae while emphasizing safety for fish and plants when used as directed. However, some note reduced effectiveness against filamentous algae, and a small group reports fish deaths linked to overdosing or use in poorly aerated ponds. Despite these concerns, most customers consider it a reliable solution for stubborn algae problems.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] And helped clear all the algae in my tank. It’s very easy to use and is long lasting as well. I highly recommend this product. It doesn’t have a strong odor either, which is great.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A helpful addition to my water maintenance routine! I’ve had a positive experience with API AlgaeFix. After using it, I noticed less visible algae and clearer-looking water, which made the overall appearance look cleaner and better maintained. Being able to see that improvement is what I appreciate most about this product. I also found it easy to incorporate into my regular maintenance routine while following the label instructions and measuring the recommended amount carefully. I still keep up with regular cleaning and filtration, but it’s been helpful to have a product that specifically targets algae growth. Overall, I’m pleased with the results. If you’re looking for help managing algae and maintaining clearer-looking water, this product is worth considering—just make sure you choose the correct formula for your setup and follow all directions.

Easy to use for algae problems in water features.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have several water features , from a small fountain birdbath to a small pond to a medium sized pond. Only the large pond and the bird bath have had issues with algae. Normally any issues occur in the summer when there is a lot of sun, so it’s not the best time of year to sample this product. I did see some green slime in the birdbath, so i tried some there and I’ll see how that works. I will definitely try it next summer when algae is more prevalent. It’s certainly simple to use and it doesn’t seem to change the color of the water at all. I’m looking forward to having this handy next summer when it is needed.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Algaefix is suppose to help control algae growth in ponds. But I didn’t know what size pond it’s made for but it’s made for smaller like gold fish ponds. So it’s don’t work on bigger ponds.

Questions

1 - 10 of 30 Questions

Can this product be used for a fountain that birds use for a bathtub and drinking fountain?

  1. Yes, as long as the product is dosed accordingly to the label and volume of water.

Can you use it in swimming pools

  1. This is not recommended for swimming pools, only ornamental ponds.

algae removal from pond

  1. Meekoda, Thank you for your question. The API Algaefix is not safe for animals drinking from your pond. We recommend the CrystalClear® AlgaeOff. https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=5163+5255+16592&pcatid=16592

Safe for bees

  1. Mojos Thank you for your question. The Algaefix is not harmful to bees, as long as you are following the correct dosage.

Will AlgaeFix kill beneficial bacteria that exists in the pond? If so, how many days do you wait to add bacteria?

  1. Thank you for your question. Algaefix will not significantly impact your beneficial bacteria when used as directed.

Will this prevent mold from developing in my water barrels?

  1. Thank you for your question. We cannot guarantee that this would prevent mold from developing in your water barrels.

When I pump/clean the filter the pond water is used to water plants/trees in the garden. If I use Algae Fix will it harm plants?

  1. Thank you for your question. This product is safe for use with pond plants and should not hurt garden plants either when used as directed.

Is anything else I should use for GREEN WATER.?

  1. Thank you for your question. We do suggest using a Submersible UV Clarifier to help eliminate the algae.

Will this kill duckweed?

  1. Irma, Thank you for your question. Controlling duckweed includes the physical removal of duckweed and watermeal plants. Wait for a windy day when the breeze can assist in controlling duckweed. When plants are pushed to the sides and edges of the pond, manually remove them with a long handled swimming pool net or other appropriate device that can reach the duckweed and scoop them out of the water. Manual removal alone is not enough to get rid of duckweed, but can help with reducing the amount. This practice must be repeated. Get rid of duckweed before it takes over the pond by increasing aeration at the bottom, manually removing plants from the surface and reducing nutrients that create bottom sediment.

If there are fresh water turtles in my pond, will it be fine to use Algae Fix?

  1. My pond only has tadpoles, not fish, heron took care of them last year. Tadpoles don't seem to mind it.
