The Gentle Leader Headcollar is a perfect no-pull solution to help improve leash manners and the bond between you and your dog. Designed by a veterinary behaviorist, the Gentle Leader Headcollar is loved and trusted by vets and pet parents and has helped improve 5 million walks around the world. This training tool is best for dogs who pull because it interrupts your dog's natural instinct to pull against pressure. The headcollar loops around your dog's nose, so when he pulls, it gently moves his head toward you so he can refocus his attention on you and away from other distractions. Your best friend still has the freedom to eat a treat, drink water and catch a tennis ball at the dog park. The quickest way to help your dog feel comfortable wearing his new headcollar is to let him wear it without a leash attached while he does all his favorite activities. You and your dog will soon enjoy pull-free walks together. Trust PetSafe to help keep your pet healthy, safe and happy.

Customers say

Customers overwhelmingly praise this headcollar for transforming difficult walks into calm, enjoyable experiences. Most highlight its remarkable effectiveness in stopping leash pulling, even for strong or previously unmanageable dogs, describing it as a game changer that restores control. Many appreciate the included instructions and videos that guide proper fitting and introduction. Dogs initially resist the collar, often pawing at it, though most adapt quickly with patience and positive reinforcement. A few report concerns about fit tension, nose loop rubbing, or plastic components feeling flimsy. Despite minor drawbacks, most customers find it transformative and highly recommend it.

Amazing transformation!!!

I’m adopted a puppy who has really been excited on our walks- and because I live in a city (and don’t have my own outdoor space) - I have to walk him 3-5 times a day. Within the first 6weeks - I injured my shoulder, foot and fingers from him pulling so much and having very little control - despite training him diligently. He also stops from almost every dog. We would come home from most walks with him coughing from all the tugging on his trachea. I also started dreading our walks because my body is suffering and it is just unpleasant to walk him. I purchased the gentle leader yesterday and have seen dramatic improvement! I’m in awe and truly grateful for this product. I’m actually looking forward for of our morning walk tomorrow!

great product, would be better if there was a wider band option for XL breed dogs.

We bought these collars for both of our large bread dogs. We dreaded walking them because they basically were walking use and dragging us. Last night, we put the collars on and went for a walk. It was so much better. I told my husband I could not wait to write a review, but he told me to wait until we tried again. Tonight we walked them again. They are so well behaved. The walks are like night and day. I already told one of our friends about it. I will be telling others that are going through the same problem. We are so grateful for this remedy.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The function of this is great and had my dog to stop pulling in the leash as well and it fit perfectly fit perfectly over his face and the durability is wonderful.

This is definitely the WORST headcollar I have ever purchased. My 12 week GSD keeps escaping it and fights it constantly. Definitely returning this item to store TODAY

Extremely disappointed

Save your money! We purchased the medium size for our 50# pointer / lab mix, set it up per the instructions, got the dog acclimated to where she was comfortable. She walked fine until a neighbor approached, she instantly jumped and lunged and the plastic 'quick snap' immediately pulled apart knocking a three year old girl to the ground (fortunately she wasn't hurt but it could have been bad). I had seen reviews criticizing the plastic locking 'snap clamp' and was happy to see that they changed it to metal, now they need to do the same thing with the 'quick snap'. They claim this is for extreme pullers but it is grossly underdesigned.

You should not advertise better walks on 1st use

Purchased this product, and it has some vague instructions on the back of the box, but no detailed instructions. The front of the box says better walks on first use, with ZERO advice to acclimate or train their dog, implying you simply put in and go. This risks a traumatic experience which leads to a lot more work, as well as a very unpleasant experience that could have been avoided. Shame on you!

Mostly, it worked for us until it got a little too loose and he chewed through the lead... :-o

Questions

1 - 1 of 1 Questions

Would I need a m, l or xl for my 3yr old American Pit Bull Terrier?

  1. This is a great question, Phoebe! To determine which size you would need for your dog, we would recommend matching your dog's weight to the sizing chart on this page, or measuring your dog around the highest point of their neck directly behind their ears and contacting our live support team. We will be happy to help provide information on the likely best size based on that measurement. Our number is 1-800-732-2677, and our hours are Monday through Friday 8 A.M.- 7 P.M. EST.
