Customers say

Customers overwhelmingly praise this pet door for its easy installation, sturdy construction, and versatile locking modes that provide precise pet access control. The straightforward setup with included templates and clear instructions appeals even to those with limited DIY experience. Reviewers consistently highlight the robust, durable build that withstands outdoor elements and daily use. The ability to lock the door fully closed, entry-only, exit-only, or fully open is called brilliant and convenient for managing pet movement. Most cats quickly adapt and enjoy the newfound freedom, with owners describing it as a life-changing solution. A few customers report initial hesitation from pets or minor issues like firm flap resistance, though these remain isolated cases.

Broke my cats paw!

Jessica

Warning to other pet owners: my cat got her entire paw trapped and crushed in this cat door. Her paw became completely stuck, and I had to physically push the door to free her. If I hadn’t been home, she would not have been able to free herself on her own. The injury was severe enough that she broke two toes and dislocated a third toe. She is now in a splint for the next 8 weeks, and my vet bills have already exceeded $1,000 with additional follow-up appointments still needed. This was extremely traumatic for both my cat and our family. I never imagined a product marketed for pets could cause this level of injury. They need to stop selling these.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Netop sez thanks!

With all the choices to be made for our pet Netop, this has been the best for him. It did take him about 2 weeks to get accustomed to the concept of using his paws and head to enter into his catio, and once he did he used it well. Then it was time to install the second cat door allowing him full freedom from our having to be his doorman. A good solid product, easy to install. Many Thanks

I bought this 3 weeks ago trying to get more sleep, as kitty wants in and out all night. It was difficult training him, as he is an old stubborn cat. We were just getting results when one morning (thankfully I was home) he got his paw stuck in the rigid door! He was howling and hissing and could not get his paw out. I had too pull his paw and he sadly limped away. Rigid plastic doors are not the answer for cats!

Easy enough installation, but the door wedges straight down and trapped my cat's paw in the little opening at the bottom. He screams and can't free himself. I couldn't get the door open without breaking his toes, so I had to cut the cat door off at the hinges. He's still limping the next day. Do not recommend for people who leave it unattended.

The big cat door works great, better than its predecessor model. My cats seem to like the quieter closing of the door. One problem we had was that one of the tiny magnets dropped out of its slot and jammed the door, causing one of our cats to push through and crack the flap. A little tape solved the problem.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It was just ok. It was a struggle to set up. It never seemed to align evenly without a fight. Once we got it set up it lasted for a couple of months and the door cracked a little. It’s a cat door, what are you gonna do?

Our cat figured out how to open it.

Nice door but it has a serious design flaw. When it is set to allow cats in but not out our cat figured out how to open it from inside the house to let herself out. She uses her paw/claws to pull it towards her enough to poke her nose under the door and slip right out. It's only a matter of time before our other cat can do this too. Then we'll have to order 2 new cat doors of a different type. Don't waste your money and time on this.

Questions

1 - 4 of 4 Questions

How does this keep from closing on paws or tails? Good reviews but concerned about the ones where cat's paw got stuck and door closed on them and hurt them.

  1. We appreciate you sharing this concern with us! These doors have GentleClose™ design, which means when your cat goes through the door, the flap will lower slowly and gently to allow time for paws and tails to clear the flap before settling back to resting position. The only situation where this feature would not be able to assist would be if you have a multi-cat home and there are regularly situations where cats are rapidly using the door in opposite directions before the flap would have time to close. If a cat goes through in the opposite direction while the flap is still lowering, it could be possible for the flap to catch, so though it would be very rare possibility in most homes, if you have a situation where cats may be rapidly using the door in opposite directions within the same moment, a different style of door may be a better fit. Should this be the case, please contact our live support team so we can see what may be a better solution for you. Our number is 1-800-732-2677, and our hours are Monday through Friday 8 A.M.- 7 P.M. EST.

Have had this installed since summer. Now that it's "winter" in NE Florida, I can feel air leaking in around the plastic frame of the cat door "housing" for lack of a better word. How do I fix this?

  1. We are sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue with your pet door! Our team would love to help you with this. If you would like you can reach out to our team via phone Monday - Friday 8am - 7pm EST at 1-866-738-4379 or via chat through our Smart Assistant Monday - Friday 9am - 9pm EST and Saturday 9am - 6pm EST here - https://support.petsafe.net/contact-us/

So you can use this on a door that has long glass?

  1. Thank you for asking about this, Dana! This door can be installed in glass, but you would need to use our glass adaptor and modified installation to do so. The model number for the glass adaptor is ZAC10-17962. If you have any questions about this, please reach out to us! Our number is 1-800-732-2677, and our hours are Monday through Friday 8 A.M.- 7 P.M. EST.

Does the PetSafe Interior and Exterior Multi-Pet Households Big Cat Door, White, Large allow for both going in and out in the unlock setting?

  1. Thank you for asking Penny! This door has 4 lock settings to choose from: locked, unlocked, in-only, and out-only.
