Manufacturing Defect + Not Suitable for all Doors

raqi

First of all, even if this could end up working for us with some tinkering the pieces don’t come flush. Following the instructions, the pieces didn’t conjoin symmetrically to reveal screw holes on both sides, just one. Even with a new hole drilled in, the metal on either side of the conjoining pieces are different lengths, causing a small gap on one side and not the other. In the description, it mentions that it’s a SILDING pet door, it wasn’t. It also has no locking or interlocking mechanism to provide a seal between it and the regular sliding door. It’s basically just a thin metal wall that the human door bounces off of and in our case, was also not flush due to screws in the integrity of the human door. With most of these products, there usually is some kind of wings or wrap around feature to prevent this. It sounds complicated, but me and my carpenter boyfriend were able to sum it up to poor manufacturing, and it was not able to be fixed or looked past even with some handy work. It’s only suitable for a specific kind of sliding door, so it is NOT suitable for most rental properties. For the price, we expected much better quality. Beware of an egregious return process.

No, I do not recommend this product.

We are so sorry for these misunderstandings about this door panel!

This panel is intended for sliding glass door installation. It does not itself slide, but installs within sliding glass door frames. The installation video shown on this page shows all the details of how this panel is screwed into place-

https://www.petco.com/product/petsafe-96-deluxe-white-patio-panel-pet-door-medium-1459031

We're so sorry for any confusion.

The panel is designed to sit flush against the wall side of the sliding glass door, so if your door had an external lock protruding in that area, it would need to be removed before the panel is installed.

A lock is included with this panel, but rather than being installed between the panel and the sliding portion of your door, it would be installed behind the sliding portion of the door. There are detailed steps in the manual describing this process, and it can also be seen in the installation video at the link above for reference as well.

With this being said, it is crucial to note that it is not normal for the pieces of this door to not line up as intended when assembled. This would be an issue we would be happy to assist with under warranty if you still have your panel and have not returned it. Should this be the case, please get in touch with our live support team- we're eager to help! Our number is 1-800-732-2677, and our hours are Monday through Friday 8 A.M.- 7 P.M. Unsatisfied

The first step in the instructions to connect the lower metal piece did not line up. Also, the door was warped. So as we got it in and tried to close the sliding glass door there was a large gap on the top and bottom. We had to get a large amount of weather stripping, to close those gaps. In addition, how to use a large DOW rod to push the door closed. So there is no more gaps. I'm very unsatisfied with this product.

This doggy door has exceeded my expectations. It was very easy to install and worth every penny. However, like others have said buy better weather stripping.

I purchased this pet sliding glass door insert expecting it to integrate with my existing sliding door lock, but the product is not as described. The panel does not include any locking mechanism that secures it to your existing sliding glass door. The only lock included in the box simply locks the pet panel itself in place — it does nothing to secure your actual door. There is no adapter, no extension piece, and no hardware that allows your current lock to function. The only option they provide is to remove your existing lock plate from the wall and reinstall it onto the insert panel, which is not a practical or secure solution. For the price and website description, I expected a complete and compatible locking system. Unfortunately, this product falls short and does not provide the security or functionality advertised. Don’t waste your money.

Overall I consider this a good product. I agree with other reviewers that you will want to buy extra weatherstripping to use for the gap between your slider and the panel, though it’s not that big a deal. The flap works and usually catches properly. My main issue is I haven’t been able to get my cat to use the door on her own. She only goes out when I hold the flap open for her. She is 15 years old, so it is probably just harder to train such an old cat.

Unfortunately, sizing is off. Although the lg door says it accommodates Setters Poodles and Greyhounds I can assure you it does not…

I installed a PetSafe door in my three panel glass door, without any issues. The brackets went in easily, the insert was placed and anchored without issues. I did opt to use the original sliding glass door locking mechanism, as there wasn't a good place to anchor the one that came with the insert. Also, I picked up some rubber weather stripping from a hardware store to seal the gap between the panel and the door (as was reported in a number of reviews). The install is solid and the dogs enjoy having the ability to go in and out at will.

Questions

1 - 10 of 19 Questions

Can this be used with vinyl sliding patio doors?

 1. Thank you for your great question. This pet door can be installed in vinyl sliding doors. Please note, however, that vinyl is a more brittle material than wood or metal, so extra care should be taken when screwing the pet door frame into place.

Is the XL size panel opening available? It’s listed in your description but it’s not on website that I could see.

 1. Thank you for your question, Deloran! The extra-large panel option can be found at the below link. Please know that the extra-large panel is only offered in the 81" version. We do not have a 96" extra-large panel at this time. https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/petsafe-freedom-aluminum-patio-panel-sliding-white-glass-pet-door

My condo association mandates BRONZE or dark brown metallic door frames. Also, the sliding glass doors are TALL. I measured about 93" +/- Do you have a pet door insert product that meets these specs?

 1. Thank you for your interest in our Patio Panel Pet Doors. At this time, bronze is only offered in our shorter panels for doors up to 81". We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Can this be used on vinyl door with monorail bottom and 92 1/2" opening?

 1. Thank you for this question, Frank. We do not recommend this Patio Panel Pet Door be used with vinyl sliding glass doors.

Will I still be able to get in and out the sliding door? I only have this one sliding door to get into the backyard

 1. Yes you will.

Can this be used on a double glass sliding doors. Putting it on the side of the door that I don’t open?

 1. Thank you for your great question. The Freedom Patio Panel is not a suitable option for double sliding glass doors. They are meant for single sliding glass doors where they rest up against the side frame of the sliding door.

I was hoping to purchase this for my home however the two sizes available are Medium and Large/Tall. I was hoping to purchase the Large size which would be appropriate for my dog's stature. How would I go about doing so?

 1. Hello there, thank you for this question. The large size Freedom Patio Panel is absolutely available. It will be listed under SKU# PPA11-13130.

The framing around my dual sliding doors is approx. 92.75" H and the height inside the track is approx. 93". Can you tell me what the length of the tall door with L-Tall insert is when the sliding/spring panel is all the way down (not engaged)?

 1. Thank you for your great question. When pushed down all the way, this pet door can fit sliding glass doors at 91 7/16"

The magnet that holds the rubber flap closed broke on mine. Is there a way I can replace that part? It’s the magnetic part on the bottom of the door frame.

 1. Thank you for your question! The magnet in the door frame is not replaceable as it is partially molded into the frame. The entire panel would need to be replaced in order to restore this piece.

Hello I need a adjustable door that will go up to 95 inches or so, 1 inch thick that fits on a track with a 12 inch tall cat opening. Pls assist what product you have.

 1. Thank you for this question! The 96" version of the PetSafe Freedom Patio Panel will fit patio doors 93" to 96". The flap opening will be 8 ¼” x 13 3/16” for medium and 10 ¼” x 16 3/8” for both the large and large/tall. If you have any additional questions please feel free to reach out to us at 1-800-732-2677. We are happy to help!
