This is a definite downgrade from the discontinued version. I had that one for 10 years and needed a new flap, unfortunately the XL is no longer available so I had to purchase a new door. This one fits the same opening but is no where near as durable as the previous one. It actually comes with plastic screws, which I replaced with metal after two broke within 6 months. The flap hangs too low and adjusting the height doesn't stay put. With the flap hanging too low, it creates gaps on the sides since it's not hanging flat. Now, a year later the magnet is broken and I have to buy a whole new flap??? Very disappointed!

This doggie door is definitely not worth the price. The flap has never fitted properly . The bracket that holds the flaps keeps sliding out of place causing the door to have big gaps allowing bugs and either hot or cold air to get in. Now the bracket broke in half and i can’t get a replacement for it. i have already replaced the flap once, and as suggested by Petsafe, tried putting 2 flaps on to weight down the door.

2nd door purchase, great product, easy installation. My senior dog needed a bigger one. I put the 1st one in 2014. It would've still been there, but my Buddy's hips aren't so good. Put in XL door, easier on him. Not thrilled with the new latch, but still a win for all of us.

Rosie and Lucy our white labs love their new door. The older door also from your company lasted over two lab lifetimes a bit over two decades. It finally wore out and we got the new one. It is well made and easy to install.

We love our dog door. I always buy the Freedom Aluminum extra large size. I do not like the newer covers that seal the door off, I liked the white metal ones much better. I’d love to purchase the white one if anyone knows where to buy one at?

Dimensions of small pet door?

Thanks for your question. The frame dimensions for the Small Freedom® Aluminum Pet Door are approximately 7 3/4” x 11 5/8". Please note that these dimensions are not the cut out measurements. We always advise using the cut out template provided with the door to ensure proper installation!

Does this Doogie door have to be installed on a door that is flat surface? I have a wooden door that isn't a flat surface.

Thank you for this question! Though this door does not have to be installed on a flat surface, if you install it on a panel door you may choose to use items such as wood shims, caulking, or other filler material to cover the gaps that will e present between the frame and the door in places.

can this dog door be put in wall

Thank you for your great question. On its own, this door is designed to fit through standard doors that are ⅜" to 2" (0.95 cm to 5.08 cm) deep. However, with additional materials and hardware, many people have successfully installed this door through a wall. You will want to gauge this on your own handy abilities and whether you feel confident enough to do it. What sort of locking device does it have? My current door has the plastic cover and my cats pulled that off in minutes.
