Petco Freshwater Fish Blind Cave Tetra, (Astyanax mexicanus)
Description
The Blind Cave Tetra is a hardy, fascinating freshwater fish known for its lack of visible eyes and pale, pinkish-white body, an adaptation to life in dark caves. Extremely resilient and beginner-friendly, this species thrives in aquariums of 20 gallons or larger, preferring stable water conditions, gentle flow, and plenty of open swimming space. Despite their blindness, they are active, social fish best kept in groups, relying on their heightened senses and lateral line to navigate and locate food. They are peaceful and adaptable, readily accepting a wide range of foods including flakes, pellets, and frozen options. With minimal special requirements and an engaging, energetic nature, Blind Cave Tetras make a unique and low-maintenance addition to community freshwater aquariums.
