These are made out of sand bonded with some kind of resin. We had added the largest cube to our tank, setting it on top of sand substrate. After about a week we decided to replace it with the medium sized cube and when we removed the large cube it had a strong terrible odor like sulfur and burning plastic. The white sand it was sitting on had turned a sickly shade of blue/gray. When we scooped the affected sand out it also had the plastic odor. I will update if we have any problems with the livestock in the tank, but I would never put these in a tank again. Just nasty :(

No, I do not recommend this product.
