Questions
Where are the mealworms grown? Are they shipped ground, UPS etc?
what size are the mealworms. I am looking for jumbo for fishing
Are Mealworms safe to feed to Axolotls?
I have a Juvenile leopard gecko what size worm should I get?
- I have raised them for a number of years. I would suggest the large variety. (smaller than they used to be) I would also suggest the "vita-bugs" brand, which is sold here. They are clean, loaded with protein, vitamins and minerals, and have great service. When I order from them, I can expect it to get here in ~2 days. Not bad. They also sell a size which they 'call' giant, if these are not quite big enough. Geckos can gulp down worms of an enormous size compared to them, so keep that in mind. Hope I have been of help. Good luck.

can i feed this to my tortise?
- Perfectly safe. I would recommend the "vita-bugs" brand, which is sold here. Full of protein, vitamins and minerals, and clean as a whistle. I live in the Ozarks, and the order from them will arrive here at ~2 days. Different breeds can have slightly different tastes, but well worth a try.

Are Vita-Bug mealworms okay to feed to chickens??
- Absolutely. They are clean, full of protein, vitamins and minerals. The birds should love them. Also, I believe that this type of food can add a rich, positive flavor to them, and their eggs as well. (I am a chef, and tend to think along those lines) I live in the Ozarks, and the order arrives here in ~2 days. Best of luck to you and yours.

Can hamsters have mealworms? If so, what size should I get?
- Yes, they can. Hamsters and all small rodents can eat feeder insects as treats. Keep in mind that insects are all protein, which shouldn't make up too large a portion of your pet's diet. If you are feeding a mostly grain based diet (you should be!), more feeder insects are ok. If you are feeding a primarily protein based diet already (seed mixes, in which case you should look into a healthier diet!), you shouldn't give too many mealies at all.

are the mealworms you sell on line packed with bran flakes?
- Mealworms need to be kept in a medium of bran flakes supplemented within animal multi-vitamin powder and bone meal. The fruit/veggie is for moisture. The mealworms are only as nutritional as to what you feed them. All mealworms should be 'gut-loaded' before feeding when they come directly from the store, online or whatever source. The bran is what they eat (which includes the vitamin/mineral addition) I know this is 9mos after you asked the question, but google Care of mealworms for bats or birds in rehab. I am a licensed wildlife rehabilitator since '87
