Customers say

Customers overwhelmingly praise this food for transforming their dogs' health and enthusiasm. Dogs eagerly consume meals, with many licking empty bowls and dancing for food—even picky eaters and seniors now eat enthusiastically. Reviewers deeply value knowing exactly what their dogs eat: human-grade, unprocessed ingredients without artificial additives. Most report significant health improvements including weight loss, shinier coats, firmer stools, and resolved digestive issues like vomiting and diarrhea. While preparation requires time, customers consider it worthwhile, often batch-cooking on weekends. A few mention concerns about potato content or cost, and a handful of dogs refuse it, but these are vastly outnumbered by positive experiences. Overall, reviewers recommend it as a health-enhancing solution.

Our dog needed to lose weight after knee surgery and this option was a game changer. It is good to know she is getting good nutrition and we save money too.

Great for gluten and poultry intolerant dogs

This is the third recipe I've made for my dogs. This time I used beef and potato because my current dog has skin issues; she's possibly gluten intolerant, and I'm pretty sure she doesn't do well with poultry. So this is the perfect blend, she does fine with beef, and now we know she does fine with potato. Plus she looooves it. Thanks, JFFD!

My 2 GSD LOVE this. Neither one had issues eating kibble, but I wanted them to have fresh, real food. They are obsessed and definitely know when I am cooking for them. One is a sous chef. I use the beef and russet potato recipe and could not be more pleased.

So great to have all the needed supplements handy in one package. Just follow the recipe instructions, add the supplement powder & deliver a well-balanced meal to your pupper. We use for our senior dog who has been diagnosed with Pancreatitis. She really loves both the Chicken/Rice and the Beef/Sweet Potato!! Great product!

One of my dogs is a picky eater and stopped eating his kibble. After doing some research, I bought Just Food For Dogs due to its quality and cost. I make a large batch of ground beef and potato recipe each week and both of my dogs love it! They know when I'm cooking for them and swarm in the kitchen. They absolutely love dinnertime!

Questions

1 - 6 of 6 Questions

I have a very large dog (120lbs bernese mtn dog) and I am wondering about the portion sizes. What would be the ideal amount of food to feed one her size? and how long would one of the diy canisters last?

I currently feed my dogs a combination of cooked chicken and raw beef with sweet potatoes and carrot, liver and gizzards. If I added the DIY formula. Will it add extra nutrients it might need and will it add extra calories?

    1. Hi, in my opinion, I think it is very important and to add the formula and follow directions. All the little micro nutrients are very important in the right ratio.

What are the ingredients that have to be purchased and how to you prepare them?

    1. You will need to purchase ground beef, beef liver (it can be found sliced and frozen in a grocery store), russet potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, apples, green beans, peas, and safflower oil. The meats and veggies cook in one skillet, and the potatoes boil in a separate pot. It may seem like a lot of work but it is worth it. I cook every week for two Bulldogs and can’t imagine ever going back to dry dog food.

Are there multiple recipes included in the canister? My dog has an apple intolerance and would need a substituted ingredient.

    1. Nope. No subs but you could probably leave it out. There is also a toll free number you can call to talk to a doggie nutritionist.

Petco.com consistently says that JustFoodForDogs DYI powder is NOT AVAILABLE at the Union Square Petco, yet it is always available. This blocks me from getting the 10% order-online-pick-up in store discount. Why?

So this only comes as a powder, no actual *food* in the can to be reconstituted? It says it makes 30 lbs of food, does that mean 30 lbs of BROTH or GRAVY?? What's the difference in this and just buying people food, no salt/low sodium beef broth?

      1. It makes 30 pounds of food. You need to buy FRESH ingredients and an Omega-3 supplement. I make a half recipe for my dog every two weeks. He loves his food. I was having the JFFD prepared meals delivered but I like making it myself better.
