Don't buy the kit, buy the tank by itself

Gd3fitdad

After reading reviews and looking for myself and even after getting the 2.5 gallon shallow tank kit that I just returned today. I grabbed the 6.8 gallon shallow tank by itself. Reason for that is 1: cheaper was $40 with the half price tank sale, 2: stand alone tanks are sealed better, I opened the box and looked at the kit version of the 6.8 and 5 gallon and they were no better then the 2.5 I returned, like they used just enough silicone to stick the glass together just barely any not enough to hold together long term. Stand alone tank has not a ton more silicone but has a proper bead in all the seams. Plus the glass is 1mm thicker on the tank by itself. 3: the tank by itself comes with a glass lid unlike the kit with the worthless filter and light that you will inevitably replace. And it still comes with the foam mat. Basically save the headache by the 6.8 gallon as a tank only, not the kit. The kits are rushed and dropped into boxes and cheaper quality glass. Get a proper filter and light, I just saved $30 with discounts on the current sales online with pickup in store on the fluval aquasky 3.0 12w Bluetooth controlled bar light, fits the tank perfectly and lights it up nicely. Filled the tank with water for a leak test and it feels stable, no flex in the silicone joints too make you feel like it's going to let go. Could of gotten the tank even cheaper at 65% off instead of 50% if I had already upgraded to the premier small pets perk membership, but late later as I'll stick with the free membership for now.

Yes, I recommend this product.

everything is great. love the tank size... but light became a strobe light after only a few months lol, then stopped working completely. kinda impossible to find anyone to contact about it? ended up getting another light from another brand with a timer and I love it so much better. this one doesn't come with one. so either way, not really worth spending the extra money on this kit IMO, just buy everything separately and not an imagitarium light either

Major water damage bound to happen

Booo never ever ever ever ever buy anything that says IMAGITARIUM! Especially if you're on the second floor. They are not metrically squared. They are all wonky and will break and then you'll have major water damage especially if you're on the second floor. I'm going to guess 20,000 or $50,000 worth of damage

No, I do not recommend this product.

A letdown

Love the tank, filter lasted less than 24hrs and the light only has 3 leds working. For the price I expected something worthwhile.

Light went out, Petco support not helpful

Shelby

The tank works as it should but the filter is not the greatest and the light stopped working within a month and half of having it. I reached out to Petco site prior to leaving review and basically telling me there's nothing they can do about it and I need to contact the store. The store I purchased from is nowhere near my house.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great tank, bad bundle

dafishman

I picked this up for $100 at my local petco. The tank itself is awesome and beautiful and a very great shape for a shrimp tank. The filter is pathetic and the light is questionable. My local store also had the individual tank for sale and if I could do it again I definitely would have just skipped the bundle and just gotten the tank.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I love the tank, but the light and filter not so much. The price before was okay ($100), as it brought everything needed, but realistically you’ll need a new filter within a few months. I went to buy another one of these tanks, and noticed that the price went up from $100 to $115. When I asked customer service why they had increased the price, they told me it was for better quality light and filter, but when I asked them what was different, they were describing the tank I already had which I bought two -three months ago… when I spoke to another customer service agent, they told me that Petco has different prices online and in store. My petcos in-store price was 100$ without sale. Online, their promotion brings it down to $90, whereas now it’s $100. Still no explanation of what’s different. Ultimately, is you want a long and shallow tank, this is a good option. But their honesty and trustworthiness has gone down in my book.

Yes, I recommend this product.

If you multiply the three dimensions to get the total cubic inches and convert to gallons is it about 11.9 gallons! Way bigger than 6.8. Can you please recheck your dimensions?

  1. Hi, The official 6.8-gallon rating is based on the tank's inside dimensions, while the measurements listed online often reflect the outer dimensions, which include the glass thickness.  Thanks,

Is it a regular glass or low iron glass?

  1. Hi Sivamay, Good day! The term "low-iron glass" is unfortunately an industry term and not something that can be qualified or certified. That said, we use aquarium glass which has a low rate of discoloration (ultimately, what is marketed as low-iron glass). Thanks
